You mean there is such a thing as a good pint of pride ?
In my dictatorship I'd replace the pump sign with a big warning 'Other Nicer Beers are available to the left and right of this pump'
EDIT: scratch that - I'd make pride illegal and replace it all with spitfire

We'll have to agree to disagree there IMO, Pride seems to really vary depending where you get it. I used to think exactly the same, until I was recommended the Pride in several pubs where it turned out to be much better. I think a lot of it could be a temperature thing, but I'm really no expert in that area.
You're exactly right there. I was looking at the general correlation that suggests that 'advertising works to a large extent', rather than discussing specifics.
But I do believe that carefully targeted advertising can be very successful, particularly when dealing with the subjectivity in the selection of goods such as alcohol products. I'd agree that it works very much by the mechanisms you've described, and definitely that not everyone is susceptible.

I have drank cider for a fair few years now, from frosty jack (the hobo's choice as it doesnt taste of chemicals) to magners
I think the next big thing will be the jack daniels bottles with stuff mixed in, you can get it in the USA....that reminds me i need to ask someone to bring me back some lol
Yeah I had a thick moment - as I did when I wrote the subject.....
Beer'S a new fashion statement?
Wasn't this an early 90s thing? It tasted crap back then and it still does, it needs the lime to hide the disgusting flavour .
On the subject of pints, the allround worst pint of guiness I've ever had was in an 'Irish' bar in New Jersey in the late 90s, tasted like pig swill that had been filtered through used cat litter. I didn't dare say anything as the week before I'd been to a Gerry Adams meeting and had felt very conspicuous at being the only one not to give him a standing ovation, heh.
