    found/curious

oooph, after someone a little more 'knowledgable' on this subject than i am. Was on way back from xmas do tonight and found a small bottle on the back seat of the cab, stupidly, i took a vague sniff of it (was dark and have a bad 'i wonder' side to me) i'm not worried what it was as it since dissapeared down a drain outside my house, but i am curious. it was a clear liquid, smelt like a cross between permanent marker and chlorine. (sp? the crap they stick in swimming pools) my other half said 'not nail polish remover, thats for sure' Anyone got any ideas what it was?

I would say its sounds like White Spirit or Turpentine. I used to paint alot of models and always cleaned my brushes with the stuff.

Alot of the alcoholics do actually drink stuff like that as its virtually pure alcohol and end up in hospital.

Don't try that at home kids

90% sure that it was Amyl Nitrate.

    http://www.urban75.com/Drugs/drugamyl.html

People use it in clubs as a way of getting a quick buzz, but it is also used in the sex industry as the effect can get people "going".

If you sniffed it you would have killed a few thousand braincells, but nothing more. (You have a few billion left so it's nothing to worry about really).

Edit: How big was the bottle? Was it about 1.5/2 inches tall?

yep, small brown bottle, 1.5-2 inches tall.

EDIT i'm not too worried about brain cells anymore, madness runs in the family, and i lost most of mine before I realised scrumpy was bad for you... and now i suffer from never having stress -

With a small brown bottle like that it could be Acetone (The stuff you get with tape head cleaners - Surgical spirit type stuff). Say that because I have a small brown bottle with it in beside my PC I bought from the chemists a few weeks back for cleaning purposes.

Acetone smells just like permanent marker

It does sound like 'Animal Nitrate' but shows u how very, very old I am cos I thought that it died out years ago

Apparently, according to the Home Office, it is now back as one of the hallucinogenics of choice among the 16 - 24 age bracket (it's still legal).

Edit: Acetone in the back seat of a cab on a Friday night???? I'd give you 10/1 if you're a betting man

hmmm, it wasn't just like 'permanent marker' it was something more. if you've ever used hammerite thinners, think of them. acetone - hmmm, it could be, definately comparable, especially when i think back to my school days 15 odd years ago i'm probably glad i'm a good few pints and 4 sambuka's worse for ware though - after reading that website, i think i could of been that, i wasn't curious enough to really explore further, atleast in the back of a cab, and a few drinks down. its in a good place now anyway. (unless you're a sewer rat)

Yeah, sounds very much like poppers, like Knox and Dabeeeenster have already said. When sniffed directly it relaxes the muscles and gives a dizzy, "drunk head" effect. Effects last for a very short time, 10-15 seconds. The effects are often used by night-club attendees for what you might call "a bit of a laugh", and alternatively as a way of making penetration of the anal cavity less uncomfortable for people who are nervous/tense.

Manufacturers refer to the product as a "room odouriser", which is intended to be left open in a room to aid in relaxing/winding down/and in terms of the sex industry - acting as a strong, man-made pheromone.

i must agree, it's gotto have been poppers (amyl nitrate). someone probably dropped em in there on the way out to a club or summat. you should have set fire to the bottle, they go up so well. someone dropped a bottle they found onto our campfire at reading, and the damn thing blew up really good. peace and relaxed butholes
