Hey Vaul, I agree with just about everything you say.Originally posted by Vaul
Well, PC as a concept isn't all bad, but PC in the way it is actually used, i.e. with a 'you can do what you want to the majority as long as you don't upset the minority' isn't.
Also, as a concept that bases itself on tolerance and understanding, the sort of PC nutter's who make decisions like trying to ban the word 'Christmas', are anything but tolerant.
Political Correctness is basically people who read the Guardian, getting offended on behalf of ethnic minorities, who don't want or need them to do so. (In general. )
As an example; the Scottish parliament has banned the use of the words ‘have a merry Christmas’ on its cards, in case... yep, you guessed it ‘ethnic minorities get offended’.
Now, have any members of the aforementioned ethnic minorities complained? Of course not. Were they going to? Of course not. Would any sane person actually get offended over the phrase ‘Merry Christmas’ or any greetings cards; or whatever greetings you have for Eid, or other festivals? Nope.
Is there anything offensive about people of a certain faith celebrating their religious festivals? Nope.
Surly the act of banning the cards shows that the only group of people who aren’t tolerant of people’s faiths is the PC warriors themselves?
This is where the phrase ‘Political Correctness gone mad; comes from. It is used when there is no need what-so-ever, by people who have it all wrong.
So why the ban then? As I said, some ‘I know best’ types have got offended on behalf of the ethnic minorities and that’s that.
PC is not needed, when we already have common sense.
Like I say, good concept, horribly reality.
Oh, by the way, considering that people have tact, decency and a bit of common sense, who exactly would get offended if we were not all politically correct?
I'm not politically correct.
I'm not racist or phobic about anything.
I applaud common sense.
