    noisy gainward Ti4800

    Sometimes when I cold boot my SN45G the graphics card fan makes a god awful noise, I tried cleaning out the card carefully with compressed air etc and it did help a bit at first but now it is making the noise again even though the fan appears totally clean.

    If I power down and restart a few times it stops doing it and behaves.

    Do I have enough reason for an RMA? Or can someone recommend an alternative cooler. The card is still in warranty.

    cheers

    Here's an easy fix - doesn't always last long - and if you think you can, RMA instead.

    Take the fan off, peel off the sticker on the side that the fan hub attaches to the fan housing, there's a hole. Put a drop of oil (not WD40 - it's too thin) in there. Put the sticker back on (or use sticky tape or something.) Reattach fan.

    Works a treat for me on problem fans - especially small ones.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
