    dell monitors, warranty, third-party suppliers.

    Hello,
I am considering purchasing a monitor that will last me 3 years, so i need something big, good warranty, and be able to do 1920x1200.

i did consider the gateway that tesco are selling but a 12 month warranty is a no-no.

now, i have seen the dell 2707 (about £800) and 2407 (about £500) at eclipse-computers (i went down to see them, seem to be ok, wouldnt want to deal with RMAs with them, hence this post).

I can collect the monitor from them and that is quite appealing. I also think the price for a brand new 2707 is very good.

All i need to know is how does the warranty situation work with regards to dell? ie if you buy from scan or whatever, and you are not happy, do you need to register with dell the monitor, or do they somehow know that you brought it legitimately etc?

i ask this as i want the monitor and dont in particular want to deal with eclipse with regards to issues,

    please advise.

Your warranty should be direct to dell..mine is and I didn't buy it from dell.

You should ring up dell and start haggling the price with them. I did that and got over a 25% discount on a brand new 2707. p.s. Dont let them sideline you into buying a 3007-hc.

Bought from this chap in January since then 5 of my friends have bought from him. So I feel he is reliable. Any queries I have had with him are answered same day. I asked him the same question, and yes it is Dell that will cover not the supplier.

Currently selling the 24 inch panel at £419.00.
He does supply 27 inch panels, Dell, but no stock atm. If you mail him and see when he is getting more in at least you can check out how he responds.

Although he claims that Dell covers the warranty - did you get the original order number that he had with Dell. I have read elsewhere (can't remember where) that when you call Dell, they require the original order number that they dealt with, not yours and they will try and get you to deal with your original supplier. If this is all alright I will consider buying from him as the price is very good and I missed the Dell easter offer of 407 quid!

Ebuyer have the 24" one in stock for £462.66 (minus £10 if you use Google checkout).

I'd go with that one out of the two due to the pixel size (aka dot pitch) being nearer to standard on the 24" rather than larger on the 27".
If you can't keep up, stick with reality...
