    Best card for monitor

    I've got a Samsung 226BW, 1680x1050 max res, 2ms etc.

I'm looking at buying a DX10 card to last up to a year and have come down to an ATI 2900XT or a 8800 GTS 320MB OC (XFXs XXX)

What I need to know though is looking at benchmarks is there any point of paying more for a card that can go faster than the other if they both are comfortably above my monitors refresh rate even at high AA/AF/HDR/VHQ settings?

Also why oh why do no review sites benchmark at 22" resolutions? Hello?! How many people have 2560x1600 compared to 1680x1050 max resolutions?!?

So, aside from future proofing is there any point having a graphics card that exceeds 60fps if you have a 'normal' LCD?

There isn't any point even if you have a CRT capable of 120fps - your eyes won't be able to tell any difference beyond 60.

They benchmark at those resolutions because that's the closest thing they have to testing how things are going to be in a few years time, also they have to try and do *something* to strain the cards. It doesn't matter that card A might be better than card B only at super-high resolutions, they still need to answer the question of which card is better at all
