768MB XFX GeForce 8800GTX XXX Edition VS Inno3D 768MB 8800 Ultra

Hi all,thanks for allowing me on the forums.just wanted to get a bit of advice as i am in the final stages of putting a system together.at the moment i have the 768MB XFX GeForce 8800GTX XXX in my shopping basket for £470 but for an extra 20 i can get the Inno3D 768MB 8800 Ultra.which would you recommend me to get?any help much appreciated.

In that situation i'd go for the Ultra but a lot of people would say buy the standard GTX and overclock it and save some cash ?!

Yeah, get a ~£350 GTX and if u need the extra oomph then overclock it urself. However i doubt that u will need the extra MHz considering the GTX is so fast at stock. If you really want to spend the extra money go for the ultra.

Also i hope you intend to game at a resolution suitable for the card. If you dont have at least a 24" running 1920x1200 go for the £350 GTX and spend the rest on a monitor that warrants spending that much on a GFX card.

Yeah, I wouldn't spend £470 on a GTX.

rumored price cuuts looming for the ultra, some big money there...

i would look for a gtx - can be had for £320ish mark

Although I may be wrong with todays newer cards, I had an old Inno3D GeForce2 and it seemed like it had a low quality set of components which definitely did not allow any o'clocking (although on a GF2 i dno how much was do-able)

To be fair to it though, it was very reliable at stock speeds and I still run a server from it

You can get an 8800 Ultra for less than £470 even an XFX one. Just look at scan.

I have seen asus ones for around £440 which are clocked at 650Mhz

The XFX 8800GTX XXX (so many Xs) is already overclocked, and given that the Ultra is just a higher-clocked GTX (I think) there may not be that much in it...

I've just ordered a system with the XFX so I hope it's a good card!

wayhay i have a Geforce 2 aswell its a good little card and it costs like 10 quid lol when it was good back in its day it was about 300 quid---> Nvidia Geforce 2 MX/MX400
