I know you can get just about anything else wireless but is there anything out there i can use to make my monitor wireless.
Plan is to have my computer on the other side of the room so i'd like no wires from the stuff on my desk to my shuttle.

Sharp make an LCD TV which is wireless.
Costs over a grand though.
Wireless monitor eh? That would kick ass. I doubt there is such a thing though
its possible
if they did it with tvs, why not monitors? to be fair lcd tvs cost a load more than monitors, im sure theyd be a fair few hundred less than 1000 if they existed
all it needs it some sort of bluetooth dongle on the dvi port, and a bluetooth screen connection, and a big rechargable battery

just did a quick calculation, and for my monitors current resolution (1280x1024 at 85Hz, 32 bit colour depth) you need a 3.4Gigabit/second connection to shift that amount of data. You'd need something a bit stronger than BT.Originally Posted by Swafeman
Im sure you can... i remember seeing something on microsofts website that was exactly what youre asking about Knox. They had a portable wireless monitor that was being used in a seperate room fron the actual PC itself.
I dont have any linkage unfortunately, but Im certain I saw it. Could have been a concept product tho.
well actually microsoft have withdrawn research into the wireless monitor. they cost ~ tablet pcs but aren't clever - go figure...
sharp do make them, but they are the sole producer.
oh and bluetooth is less than 1mbyteps - good luck .
best bet is a tablet pc. if you need the power of a decent pc, VNC onto a desktop...

Yeah, but that's with zero data compression or encoding, if you can run a large screen with something like radmin with ease over ethernet, I'm sure with dedicated hardware on the case you could knock it down to acceptable levels.Originally Posted by Byatt

Cheers guys, looks like that idea may not work then, ah well........back to the drawing board it seems
What you're probably after is called a "Smart Display". Shove that into Google and the first thing you should see in the MS link : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/sma...ay/default.asp
The project has been canned, and the 2nd link you'll see is titled "Smart Display is dead"
Seemed like a good idea but the products developed were damn expensive and not actually that good at what they were supposed to do (allegedly )
ba you know what i mean something like bluetooth, id uno what, maybe an uber wifi, probably still too slow tho

I was thinking the same as you, initially, but I think we could be confusing graphics bandwidth with an LCD-matrix - which essentially is just a list of values that need to refresh approx 75 times per second (or 85 etc...) - most of the work is done by the gfx card which generates the image perameters - all that the device would have to transfer would be digital data (intensity of crystals - which ones are lit etc...) in the same way that it does over conventional DVI - however, on the face of it it would need more than Blue ToothOriginally Posted by Byatt
hhm...thats a bit odd, i was saying 2 days ago it would be a cool thing invent. along with bluetooth headphones. never have to untangle wires...

I'm sure you could use an ethernet KVM and a wireless bridge to get quite close
