Cool LG L226WTQ vs. Samsung Syncmaster 226BW

I'm returning my Dell 2007wfp, as it was very disapointing for watching movies. There was ghosting & some severe cases of pixelation (it looked great for still applications, pics, browsing, etc, but that's not what i bought it for). My old CRT monitor actually looked quite superior to the Dell for movie watching.

So anyway, I'm looking into buying one of the following: LG L226WTQ (or the L226WTX as i've heard the L226WTQ might have bad ghosting problems) vs. Samsung Syncmaster 226BW. I'm a gamer & movie watcher, and would like to know which monitor performs best for those processes??

    Thanks guys...

I've done a lot of reading and research into this matter as I'm going to buy one in the next few weeks. From what I've read, they are very much the same in terms of picture quality. But the samsung has a much more stylish look compared to the square basic, silver colour surround that the LG has. The 226WTQ can be bought for about £200 and the 226BW for around £230 including delivery. The looks of the 226BW have won me over! After all, it's the part of the PC you see the most.

If the LG came fully in black, then I'd probably go for it to save a little money, but while it's only sold in silver/black the samsung is the easy winner on style for me

I fear you'll have the same problems watching movies with both. A CRT is just that much better for movies, sorry.

^^^ Can someone confirm this? Are CRTs still that much better than ANY LCD at this point (for movie watching & gaming)??

If you're someone who is extremely fussy on quality yes - a good test on how fussy you are with quality = are you happy to watch a good quality 700mb Divx rip of a DVD?

    Thanks for the respones guys.

I have bunches of 700MB DVD rips (dont tell ne1 lol), and the quality is fine to me, for that purpose.

But I'm looking for a monitor that displays great quality in higher quality format movies (i.e. 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or even just better 1680x1050). I'd heard reports of the 226BW & L226WTQ being great for watching movies, but maybe i'm mistaken.

If that is true about CRT's being superior to LCD's (which it appears might be true), what would be a good/best CRT to buy?? I'm looking in the 22" to 24" range, with a price range of less than $600. And again, I am interested in watching movies & gaming on it. It would also be nice if it could produce true 1080p. Any ideas??

Gaming is fine on an LCD, native resolution movies are probably just about ok on a good LCD.. but try playing non-HD DVDs on an LCD and it'll look pants compared to the same thing on a CRT.

Though if you don't mind watching them in a window you'll be fine with an LCD I guess. I just prefer movies full-screen.

I've an LG L226WTQ and I find it to be awesome (have a seach, I've done loadsa posts about it).

Good quality 700MB DivX files (*shifty eyes*) look fine on it but 720p is where it really starts to shine, I've had it for a few months now and HD stuff still never fails to impress me. The colour's amazing, here's zero ghosting, and the blacklight bleeding is minimal - and the same can most likley be said for the Samsung.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with either display.

NightShadow, where do you live? I've heard there is a ghosting problem with the L226WTQ in the states, but that same problem doesn't exist in Europe.

I've been testing more movies out on my 2007wfp (I send it back tomorrow), and there are still flaws in all the vids. Even native resolution movies, are showing some ghosting & that pixel-shine thing. When I back away, it sort of goes away, but it's still there.

I still might give the LG L226WTQ or 226BW a shot, cuz of Nightshadow's comments (I assume i could still take it back after about a week). But i'm more than likely gonna go after the Sony 24" GDM-FW900 CRT Display. It's heavy as hell, but i've heard nothing but rave reviews about it.

Hi, I have the LG and can't recommend it highly enough. Got mine in may and it's excellent, NO ghosting in games at all.

CRT monitors of that size still cost almost £1000! don't they???

I thought you wanted it for watching movies on? - on a 4:3 screen, movies are gonna be pretty damn small compared to on a 16:10

I live in England - apparently ghosting was an issue with early model L226WTQ's but after March this year LG tweaked the design.

Bought a LG 226WTQ today, and its fantastic; sharp, bright, and no ghosting at all! Micro Direct currently have it on special for £187.99 inc vat, which I think is a bargain. Highly recommended and id echo all the positive comments about this monitor.

I would go for the Samsung 226BW.

As for watching movies and games it all really depends on how you set it up via the monitor options and Nvidia/ATi settings.
