Monitor tuning/tweaking utility

I've just got me a nice new monitor. Very lovely it is too. The thing is that I read in reviews about using displaymate to set up colour, contrast etc. settings. So, I thought I would give this tool a try anly to find out it cost alot of $ just for the basic version. Is there another tool out there to help setting up monitors, specifically lcd/tft ones that's free to use?

Built-in driver tools? Nvidia's are pretty good for day-to-day usage, but if you want a 'real' calibrated monitor then you'll probably need to shell out.

Thanks. Apart from the brightness turning down a bit, from what I could see nothing needs tweaking. Surely it must need some tweaking more than that?

The only thing I did with my Samsung 225BW was turn down the brightness. Apart from that, its not been touched!

Turning down contrast some 5-10% is said to improve colour accuracy a bit.

All I did on mine was turn the brightness down a bit and made sure that the RGB was set to 6500k.
