    7900gs for 40 quid? x1950xt for 60 quid?

Hi I recently purchased a Galaxy 7900GS for 40 quid, is this good? I only need it for occasional gaming.

I have also been offered a HIS IceQ Turbo X1950XT for 60 quid but turned it down due to its length.

What have I missed performance wise?

Never heard of Galaxy are they any good? Should have my 7900 GS tomorrow

    Both very good deals.

The 7900GS is comparable to the X1950pro but the XT is the next step up and really quite a good card.. not that the 7900gs isn't very capable.

I would say its a big step up. Either will play almost all modern games quite nicely.

    Perhaps not crysis lol

Just installed a Artic Cooling Accelero S1 with the turbo module, tembs gone from 55 to 35 idle, and stays at 35 at full load too. So good results there!!

CPU has just been running abit hotter.

    Re: 7900gs for 40 quid? x1950xt for 60 quid?

You should've taken the X1950XT, much better. Although why you're asking us if it's any good I don't know...you seem to know your PC stuffs Ommid from what I remember.

If you're running 3Dmark05, looking at the score, the X1950XT would've got around 6500 if memory serves me right. As you can see that equates to an extra 50% in performance (in 3Dmark at least).

One advantage of the 7900gs over the x1950XT is it's far lower power draw.

And galaxy is an old name graphics card manufactor (old in pc terms)

    Re: 7900gs for 40 quid? x1950xt for 60 quid?

Reason i was asking is because i have never been big on vga cards and wasnt sure, just as well i got the 7900gs because with my microatx motherboard, there was just enough clearance due to the 24pin psu connector.

My psu is only 450w and i have a pentium 4 550 (3.4ghz) with 2 hard drives and about 8 usbs. Should be enough right? no pci cards, 3 fans, 2 dvd writers.

Tested the video card on BF2 with all on full and it looks the same,

Where shall i get the drivers from, not sure i have the best drivers at the moment as the shaders on far cry where weird lol

    Thanks alot guys.

When you say galaxy is old you mean an old brand as in trusted?

    Re: 7900gs for 40 quid? x1950xt for 60 quid?

450w PSU should be enough depending on make&model

For drivers go to nvidia's web site.
    clicky

Galaxy dates back to the mid 90's, they are a fairly well known and trusted name.
That said I don't know what there customer service is like in the UK (if bought new, should be a 2 year warranty or a lifetime warranty on Galaxy's Masterpiece range)

PS is that the factory overclocked Zalman cooler edition? if so it's supposed to be a very good 7900gs
