    Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to find out if anyone here is still using a standard aspect monitor or has everyone now gone widescreen?

For those that have jumped ship to the USS Widescreen, is it better for most pc uses?

What size and style monitors are you using.

I think i've decided to get a 20.1" 4:3 monitor as I rarely game and I can get a better monitor price wise than I can in a widescreen.

What do you guys use and think?

    Peace

Re: Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

I much prefer widescreen. I find it better for gaming but also for general usage.

    At home I've got 3 Dell 24" widescreen TFT's (1 x 2407 & 2 x 2405), at work I've got a 2407 and when I'm travelling I use the 15.4" (1680x1050) screen on the laptop.

On my main PC I've got the 2 x 2405's and it's fantastic. On the left screen I have my torrent client, an SSH terminal, Winamp and my Slingbox. On the other screen I have my IM client and Firefox.

Re: Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

Like above, since I switched to using two 22" widescreen (16:10) displays I wouldn't want to go back to 4:3. I find I'm more productive now (wider coding panels in the IDE are a godsend!) and gaming is so much better. It's a matter of personal preference though but I highly recommend it
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

I agree with burble, couldn't go back to a "normal" screen now, I am using a Samsung 206BW (20") and found it to be a great monitor.

widescreen is alot better to view, as it suited to our peripheral vision.

Smile Re: Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your thoughts so far

I am seeing alot of people comment on how they wont go back to standard aspect screens, and how widescreen is soo much better. I was thinking of getting a Dell 20.1 4:3 screen because it is alot better panel to any widescreen i can buy at a similar price! Maybe I should continue to save a little more cash and buy the Dell 2407WFP-HC, its about another £150?

    Dont you just hate decisions

Please keep your thoughts coming, its most appreciated.

    Peace

Re: Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

Just get a cheap 24" widescreen for ~£230. Even some of the cheap ones look amazing, and imo unless you need all the inputs, the Dell just isn't worth it.

As for SA vs WS - I promise you won't look back. The only annoying thing is getting widescreen to work in EA games is sometimes a biznitch.

Re: Widescreen vs Standard Aspect (4:3)?

    Just a quick update,

I have recently bought a HP w2207h 22" widescreen monitor (as the shop I bought it from has a 14 day return policy)

and all I can say is 'WOW' the widescreen really makes a big difference in how you can use your PC.

Thanks for all your input guys, most appreciated

    Peace.
