Hercules 9800SE AIW or ATI 9700 Pro AIW?

    Hi All!

I am looking at getting a graphics card for my pc and I am very tempted by the Hercules Radeon 9800 SE AIW at £165 or an Ati Radeon 9700 Pro AIW for at least £186
Considering a small % of those Hercules cards will be successfully 'softmodded' to an 9800 Pro, is it worth the risk or should I go for the 9700 Pro AIW instead?
what are your ideas on this?

It's really up to you, isn't it. Small bit extra to have the 'safe' extra performance, or get the Hercules and take the risk. The Hercules will still perform as well as a 9600XT if it doesn't softmod.

Also, with the 9800SE you get full All In Wonder support. so all the TV functions and everything else that it gives. Which normally costs a fair bit more. And then if it does softmod you have a 9800PRO AIW. else its a 9600XT AIW.

I say that you cant really lose.

    here's another one for you...
which is better, the Hercules Radeon 9800 SE AIW or the ATI Radeon 9800 SE AIW (specified with Samsung L- shaped DDR)....which I hope will softmod at least as well...?
I am just trying to get the best videocard for my money...

even if it DID softmod you'd have to get proper cooling and you'd have to put up with dodgy graphics like checkered textures etc and waiting for the unofficial drivers. so i'd get the 9700pro AIW or get a 970pro with a tv in card seperatly for around £30

You only get the checkered effect if it doesn't softmod properly. A proper softmod will be no different in any way to the original 9800 AIW.

Personally i found it to be better with the Tv tuner on the graphics card, no card for £30 is going to have the same mpeg2 encoder on it. but thats just me.

9700Pro AIW is a superb card even without overclocking - no risk, guaranteed performance ... I'd def go for that.

Haven't seen one about for a bit and thought they were still up around the 200 quid mark - know theres a Connect3d 9800pro AIW on dabs b grade list for £250 (normal list is way over 300) at the moment cos I've just been staring at it for 5 minutes before finding the power to look away
