Is my card bust, or missing something obvious?

Bought an 8600gts xfx in october 2006 from Scan (there abouts) been running fine until recently Ive started getting a number of funny crashes.

Firstly whilst playing ghost recon advanced warfighter (ironically that came with the card) the game would freeze, i would be forced back to my desktop which now appeared to be on lsd, it was all pixalised and made up of purple/green/red/blue dots, the monitor then lost signal and I was forced to reboot.

The problem has since reoccured whilst playing a number of new games on the market, Ive updated my drivers, ran anti spyware adware you name it, updated directx, reinstalled the games, the drivers multiple times but this is still happening.

It has been suggested the cards is overheating, it runs at 62 degrees under load.

I just dont know whether my card is dead or i am missing a simple fix, thanks for any help

Specs are in my profile I believe but anyways

    8600gts
    2gig 533 DDR2 ram
    pentium D 3.x
    Windows media centre SP 2
(not sure what else to include but will do if prompted!)

62 degree's is nothing so if that figure is accurate heat isn't your problem.

Is there any obvious signs of damage to the card? Something loose? Does it use a PCI-E power cable from the PSU, is that plugged in properly? Is the PSU ok?

Sounds like you may have to RMA the card, good news is Scan are great for that

The PSU is fantastic and was since I got it, all cables are in correctly, the card looks fine, nothing apparently wrong.

Thanks for the confirmation guess I know what to do now

Does it only happen on that one game?

Off hand sounds like a card fault, probably one of the memory chips on it.

Get screen shots temp readings at the time of fault. (usefull fault proof)
Check you PSUs 12v rateing at the time of crash. (the later Xcilo's went down a lot in quality)
Update drives (you'll probably be asked to do that anyway before RMA)
Check your warranty (if it was only 1 year no RMA )

That is disastrous news on the RMA, its been over a year so great... Ive also had no response from scan after sending an email 3 weeks ago (although I guess it doesn't need pursueing anymore)

My PSU is in my system window, xclio 550w. It has not happened since I did a driver clean (properly) and reinstalled, however the real test will come when *game that must not be named in beta* gets back into flow and I can see if the crashes still occur.

    Thanks
