Question FRAPS and Company of Heroes (and Steam)

    Hi all,

I'm trying to get a benchmark FPS rate for CoH on my PC, so I can do some tuning.
I've downloaded FRAPS, but it won't work in CoH...nothing appears. I've tried other 3d apps, and it works fine.

I've read that some people are having trouble running FRAPS on Steam-downloaded games (CoH came from Steam), but I see no solutions. The FRAPS home page does have a cryptic reference to disabling steam, but doesn't tell you how:

    "Top Support Issues
    # Fraps not working with Steam versions of Call of Duty 4 (COD4) and Hitman. Workaround: disable Steam In-Game "

    Anybody got any ideas?

    TIA
    Mut.

Fraps works with CoH:OF for me, v2.9.4 build 7037. My OS is Vista HP, system details can be found under My System on the left. I have Steam running but my CoH is not a Steam game if that makes sense

Re: FRAPS and Company of Heroes (and Steam)

to disable steam's in game thing, go to the steam icon in your taskbar, hit settings, and then click in-game, and then uncheck the box...

alternatively, from within the steam window, hit file, then settings, then click on the in-game tab, and uncheck the box.

    try that.

Re: FRAPS and Company of Heroes (and Steam)

    Aha, now its working...
Turning off the "in-game" community thingy did the trick...my guess is that the in-game stuff for steam is an overlay, much like FRAPS.

    Thanks for the help!

Re: FRAPS and Company of Heroes (and Steam)

it is an overlay - several steam members i've spoken to have alluded to such, and say so on the official forums... anyway, glad that's sorted

    ta for the thanks

Re: FRAPS and Company of Heroes (and Steam)

Well I have tried all of the above, but it still does not fraps the game play, it is highly annoying and again I rest my case with regards to how inefficient IT Software is regarding compatibility with anything.

Lets face it, steam do not want you to fraps games you have purchased, even though as far as I am concerned they should not have any choice or say on what the customer should fraps.

I have no idea how you are frapsing, but it certainly is not any of the above you are claiming. Meaning unless you are an IT nerd I will never know how you do it.
