    £100 to spend only... :(

I need a graphics card for my PC that willdo the following comfortably:

    Run COD4 at 1280x1084 online.

Process quickly RAW files in Photoshop.

Unfortunatley, I only have limited funds, around £100 (plus VAT) to spend.

I found this card on Overclockers and wonderd if anyone knew if it would be suitable for my requirements: HERE

If not, what would you suggest in the same price range... I really can't go much over a ton spend...

My PC specs are Asus M2N motherboard, 2Gb Ram, and running Dual Core 2.3 Athlon (so that's a 4.6 I think).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

    Paul.

Re: £100 to spend only... :(

Thats an old card, same as I have. Best to get the 9600GT or 8800GT over that one.

If you want to save a bit of money, if you look here
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

in the super savers section at the top is the 512MB ATi HD3850 pro. It'll certainly play COD4 and any other game at that resolution

Re: £100 to spend only... :(

I was told the 9600 GT were not as good as an 8800GTS

So is this one a better proposition for me?

    ASUS CARD

    or alternatively...

    BFG CARD

Sorry if I seem naive, but I am...

Re: £100 to spend only... :(

Nvidia in their wisdom made two variants of the 8800GTS.

The first was teh 320/640mb version which I have.

Then they brought out the 512mb version which is a completly different card which is better than the 9600 and 8800 GT lol

There are deals floating around for both of those around £100 - £110

Could save money with this one

obviously you lose the huge warranty but they are all built in the same factory.

Yes, unless you come across £30 then get an 8800GTS.

I'll never buy a Gainward again I hated their RMA service. I probably paid for the new card with international phone calls!

I'd go with the Gainward just because of the price. But be warned: the drivers that come with the Gainwad graphics cards are useless - don't bother installing them, just get the latest ones from the nVidea website

Re: £100 to spend only... :(

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I am getting a 8800GT, but it is gonna be a bit cheaper than anticipated. It is a PNY one, but I think it will do the job for me.

You repsonses have been invaluable, and I once again say thanks, desite not actually being in a position to buy one of yourexact recommendations.

The funds are coming from a my father-in-law and I am stuck with a financial limit that we have to adhere too.

    Once more, thanks again.

    Regards and respect.

This is an excellent card for the money, also from a supplier you can trust (not OCUK) free delivery as well with a ten year warranty.

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
