underclocking an old ATi 9800pro for HTPC use

I have an old 9800pro sitting in a box gathering dust that I would sort of like to stick back into my media pc, but my media pc box is rather lacking in spare space and cool air so I'd like to underclock the 9800 card. It won't have to do much, if any, 3D. Ideally I'd like to disconnect the fan and have it run passively. If I can "undervolt" it that could be beneficial I guess? The other option would be to replace the motherboard with a decent onboard option, but if I can use up available left-over hardware that'd be good!

anyone underclocked/volted a 9800pro or similar ati card before? Is it a good idea or am I wasting my time?

    -Thanks!

Seems like a lot of aggro compared to just buying a modern low end passive card for 15 to 20 quid.

3450s around around £25 now, that'd be better

    How do you underclock something?

The same way you overclock something, using the same BIOS/program/knob just change the frequency to a smaller value rather than a larger one. Then you can turn the voltage down too to reduce heat and energy use

1 - do these come in AGP for £15-20?
2 - why buy more stuff when the AIW card should do the job okay already, just being too noisy?

Can you not use Catalyst or Rivatuner to underclock it?

I used to use one of them to overclock my old 9800 I seem to remember, that is going to be the best way surely? and have it set to apply changes at boot ever time.
