I'm just wondering how i get a new monitor without dead pixels, i'm told there is a chance all monitors can arrive with dead pixels.
When i looked into it i saw %'s between 0.5 and 2% on panels arriving at a customer with dead pixels.
All i really want for my money is for a monitor to arrive without dead pixels, so how can i get this?
Some etailers offer a 'dead pixel check' service with monitors. Shop with them.
either go with one of the dells that have the no dead pixel guarantee, think they're all part of teh ultrasharp range. or like aidanjt suggested order from a etailer that offers a dead pixel check.
got a dead pixel check on my current monitor from aria as that was the only company i could find that offers the check
+1 for dead pixel check if your really that worried, but it isnt cheap. Other option is to buy from a shop and see if they're nice enough to let you plug it in and test before taking it away. Or Staples have a 14day no quibble thingey, my brother bought his LG from them as he was worried about dead pixels, knowing full well he could swap it out, I guess theorically, as many times as he wanted untill he'd gone through every unit in the warehouse lol.
pssst.. I think Dabs also offer a pixel check service like Aria now. :)
Also remember DSR, means you have the right to refuse the monitor within seven days should it arrive with a dead pixel, but you will end up responsible for return postage at the very least. By my Maths you'd have to return one twice under DSR before paying for a pixel check service from say Aria became cheaper.
Or to put it another way, according to you, at worst 98 out of 100 get a dead-pixel-free monitor. ;)
Even if you do get a dead pixel on a monitor, it's rarely much of an issue above 19". I had 2 or 3 dead corn-flies (which were 3-4 pixels long) in my old 2405FWP and I only ever noticed them when using Photoshop to remove some slightly larger (pixel wise!) dirt from the floor in some portrait shots I'd done. That's it.
It did bug me at first (pun not intended), but after a week or 2, I tend to completely forget about them, let alone a solitary pixel.
Go back to the stats though. Is it really worth the extra?
I've got dust and everything trapped under my screen, I think there's even a really fine hair.
It's growing on me though, I like the whole antique movie look with the speccles!
So apart from Aria and CCL, you think dabs have a pixel check service, anyone else?
I am limited to a paypal purchase only i'm afraid which narrows it down.
Very true - I've had a few monitors over the last few years.. and I've yet to be troubled with a dead pixel yet (and many of those monitors where very cheap ones!) ... unless it's been there and not noticed :)Quote:

But if your worried about it then you need to buy a monitor with a dead pixel guarantee so that either means paying for a company to check it for you or buying a Dell who guarantee no bright pixels and if the is one they will exchange the monitor free of charge (check the dell site for the monitor you are interested in to make sure its included, the wording says Ultrasharp series but it is on pages of non-ultrasharp models). Since Dell also make very good monitors in my eyes that is a win win situation.

The conclusion i came to is to order the same monitor again, i cannot see how 2 will arrive with dead pixels when the issue rate was estimated around 0.5% for this particular brand.
Either this or purchase from somewhere that does pixel check, but it has been pointed out to me that i could pay for such a service and then a bump in transit could cause a pixel to be damaged.
And as said the other options are to go for a Dell, or consider buying locally, local to me is around 100 mile for a decent well priced store, so that is one other option to think about.

I ordered a monitor and it came with 6 or 8 bright pixels, can't remember now.... returned it and got the same monitor but with a pva panel and also a dead pixel check. still came with one bright pixel. but since i had the dead pixel check on the monitor aria (etailer i used), arranged for a courier to collect and sent me another one at no extra cost. so even if the transit does cause damage then you can just return it and try again if you can be fussed.Quote:

If your down south then the is likely a Novatech store near you they have branches in Cardiff, Portsmouth, Reading and Bristol.
Further North Scan is based in Bolton, Im sure the are plenty of other places you can buy from as well.
For a Monitor PC world could even be an option they do reserve and collect so you can get the online price in the store. You may have a bit of hassle trying to get them to take it out of the box to show you it working though...

Sorry, bit of a hijac here, but could you not be ready when the delivory man comes, plug it in, and test it, then if it has one reject the delivory, put it back, and send him/her back.
If it is fine, just sign for it.
My Dell 2709 from OcUK came with a Stuck Pixel guarentee, just as well as there was a single red one, slap bang in the middle of the screen :) Dell exchanged it no problem, but I'm not sure of their policy on DEAD pixels, just struck/always on ones.
Just buy a new monitor. You are grossly overestimating what a 2% chance means. If you order any monitor, 49 out of 50 times, it will be without dead pixels. I've had three TFTs, and none have had any dead pixels to them.
