Re: Dual monitors, Blu Ray and HDCP

Thanks for the tip - I've never bought anything from Aria before, although I've had them bookmarked (for price comparisons) for a while. Have you had good experiences with them?

Having had a quick look, they seem to have some pretty good prices - although it's pain that so many retailers/manufacturers don't tell you what type of stand the screen is mounted on...

I buy with aria, next day on items virtually always helpful tech support in my case, and just generally good, cheap, delivery is a stinger sometimes though.

Re: Dual monitors, Blu Ray and HDCP

I've bought from them a couple of times and had no problems with them; they use City-Link for delivery which I've always found to be quite quick. The items that I've received from them have been well packaged and their prices are competitive from time to time.

I see what you mean about the stand and other details etc. but on each product page there is a section at the bottom where you can either post reviews about the product or your experience with Aria or you can ask a question for one of Aria's techy-team to answer. From what I've seen others ask, the system seems to work, so if your interested in one of their products but it doesn't have a lot of info. on the site, why not ask them a question? The only thing is I think you have to create an account with them to be able to use that facility, but I could be wrong - (I've never used their question system before!)

I would definitely recommend giving them a go though

Re: Dual monitors, Blu Ray and HDCP

Just to update an old post, I ended up going for this LG monitor, as it has height adjustment, DVI, VGA and HDMI and is HDCP compliant. It's a pretty good second monitor, but getting it to match my 2405 (colour, gamma, etc) isn't working as well as I'd like - and I miss the extra 120px that the Dell has. Overall? If the Dell is a solid 80%, the LG is a 65% - not brilliant, but a good value addition to my desk!

Has anyone got a similar HDCP/non-HDCP set up with blu ray? If so, have you had any issues getting blu rays to play at full resolution?

    Cheers,

I thoroughly recommend AnyDVD - works really well and also makes a large proportion of those silly content protected DVDs play too.

New monitor just to satisfy lame DRM scheme seems a bit off. I have a 2405FPW too, excellent panel, you won't really find better on the cheapo modern ones - you'd need to spend a fair amount.

I'm definitely going to check out AnyDVD (I hate DRM on products that I've bought and paid for!) but I also wanted the second monitor for music production - so it's not wasted by any means!

I've been plenty pleased with my 2405 for the last two/three years, but needed the extra screen real estate...Now I'm so used to 24" (x2!) that I need to convince our IT admin to upgrade me from the poxy 19" w/screen I have to put up with at work!

Ok I again had similar at work - was stuck with two ancient dell 17" panels in side by side stretchy desktop config - I was getting mid-bezel vision! Price of Samsung is that low now I managed to convince them after 5 years whinging to get me a 2343 - perfect for work - ~£120. Mine just has VGA so no HDCP again - but then I'm not watching blu-rays at work quite yet

Re: Dual monitors, Blu Ray and HDCP

I bought an LG GGC-H20L which plays BD and HD-DVD disks a few months ago for about £60 ready for when i saved up for a hdcp monitor (which i now have). I got a BenQ E2200HD (which is actually 21.5') and has a maximum res of 1920-1080, it has 1 vga, 1 dvi and 1 hdmi and cost just less than £150. the LG drive came with PowerDVD 7 and i runs perfect. And now i've got the sound settings working i get 5.1 DD sound through my amp too.

With the monitor straight out of the box i started watching The Dark Knight on BD does look great, and i've been watching the bits from Transformers film where the change. And when i've got the brightness and colour setup how i like em it should look better, Fallout 3 looks great at that res too.

    Hope that is helpful
