    Re: Wow hd4890 1gb @ £159.90

What a surprise someone posted it already LOL. It is a good deal although going by that thread pixmania leave a lot to be desired about on-lines sales!

I just bought a HD4870 (just arrived this morning) for £130 or else I might have went for this.

Scan has 512mb 4870 for £127 on special today.

Sparta65: you got a 1GB for that price?

No, it is a 512mb. The cheapest 1GB 4870 I could find was this one.

Tell me about it! I had just pressed the confirm order button for my HD4870 512mb, when someone posted that HD4870 1GB link in another forum that I had opened on another page. TBH though I do not really need a 4870 1GB never mind a 4890!
I intend to keep this card at least until Christmas/New year and maybe even a full 12 months.I then want to start on a i7 build from scratch. God know's what will be on the market this time next year.

    Re: Wow hd4890 1gb @ £159.90

Is this currently the best quality gfx card for around the £150ish mark?

Undecided what card to purchase for a new HTPC/Server build. Main use would be playback of HD material, Blu-Ray and .mkv (1080p). Don't use PC for games (although will possibly try Crysis: Warhead at some stage just to see if it's as amazing as I keep reading it is!).

    Thanks.

    Cheekster.

P.S. Was all set to order a stack of Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB HDD's from Pixmania this evening but ordered from Scan in the end after getting to the checkout and it added £9 odd per drive (Zen charge) plus £7 for VIPix plus shipping (£21 for express).

    Re: Wow hd4890 1gb @ £159.90

I dont get why you are complaining of the Zen Charge and other crap..You can get rid of it with a few clicks..

Also I think HD4890 is WAY overkill for a HTPC or a server...Get a 4830 for HD playback and that will save you a bundle...But even the 4830 is a bit overkill for just a server...
