If you're thinking of upgrading to a 4770 I'll give you £75 for your 8800GTX

I take it there's still some life left in the old 8800gtx

Don't worry I have a plan that should work!!

    Here it is:
1.)Use ATI Tray Tools to downclock your card in 2D to the lowest possible value. I do this for my HD4830 and it runs much cooler.
2.)Either reduce the fan speed or get a good aftermarket cooler.
3.)The HD4830 in many cases is a very good overclocker too.

Re: First official review of the HD4770!!

The HD4770 is somewhere around the 9800GTX+, 8800 Ultra performance level. You're not going to see a huge upgrade, though you will see better performance. The difference is, this is an £80 card that uses a third of the power the 8800GTX uses, if not less. The 8800GTX's performance has now entered low-midrange territory. What we want now is this to be applied higher up the scale

I'd've thought so. I won't mind getting a second one for an SLI set up though (then a new monitor to make it worth having all that grunt) - good thing I pay the electric bills and not the wife

Re: First official review of the HD4770!!

Realistically though, how much will you find one for? That's nearly 400W of power to do what an HD4890 or GTX275 can basically achieve. You could sell the 8800GTX for a reasonable sum and buy either of those and get a better result, with lower electricity bills

I would only upgrade from the 8800GT if the 20% performance increase and lower power consumption is worth it to you.

Also it looks to be a decent overclocker too like the HD4830!
Your pricing is more than likely out by a fair margin. Im not saying your USD price point is wrong, but the GBP conversion almost certainly is. It seems to be little to do with currency exchange rates either.
The US Dollar to UK Pound conversion is never that simple. Especially when the tech is new onto the market.

More often than not, we pay in pounds what the US pay in dollars ie. $100 they pay/we pay £100.
Just look at the EVGA website to confirm this.

It's £79.99 at ebuyer, $109.99 at Newegg, he wasn't far off, and in fact, it's the reverse of what both you and I expected, we're paying less than the US ($109.99->GBP = 74.61 ->*1.15 = £85.80)

Re: First official review of the HD4770!!

I was basing my prices for the HD4770 on the prices of the HD4830,8800GT and 9800GT. I also either see the HD4850 dropping back down to around £100 or overclocked versions of the HD4770 coming out which will replace it eventually.

It would have made no sense for ATI to price the standard HD4770 any higher than £80 to £90 as the GTS250 512mb can be had for just under £100 and is a faster card.
