Had to sell the 4870 to fund the 4870X2.

Though I did have a closer look at my mobo and although it supports crossfire I doubt I can use it practically with dual slot cards as they are too close together and so the top card wouldn't get enough air-flow. Not sure hpw other people do it other than liquid cooling.

kcfc, how are you finding the 4870X2 with FSX? I'm just about to replace a system and was thinking of that or the 4890 - Would be interesting to see how it copes (now if only I could power both 2048x1152 monitors at full res, that would be awesome )

    Re: HD 4870 512MB X-fire or GTX 280

Contrary to what I expected the 4870x2 scales well. I am running everything at high with 4xAA/AF and Bloom but at DX9 and not DX10 (some of my skins don't work with DX10) and am getting avg of 75 FPS (according to FRAPS).

The only negative point is the fan when it kicks in, it is quite noisy. I've not had any experience with the 4890 so can't really offer a comparison. With 4890 at £160 and 4870X2 at £240 it is a tough call.

    P.S. Good luck with both 2048 x 1152 monitors.
