Perhaps choice of a Celeron is another limit here, have you looked at AMD based motherboards?

Link to first one I saw, 71 quid.
    thanks for the suggestion.
i did consider a core duo cpu, but the server doesn't need "grunt"
the current server is atom based and it copes most of the time.
it's the disk sub-system that takes a hammering, and the raid card i bought will take care of that.
WHS isn't particularly cpu intensive, and i won't be using the server for any dvd encoding or server side processing.
i *may*, at some point, my a gigabit switch that will/would allow the two nics on the mobo to be paired. depends if the multiple comps running on the network are limited by the server's connection.

I wasn't suggesting a core duo, I was suggesting an AMD athlon X2. For low end builds they tend to work out much cheaper than Intel, and at idle they draw very little power. I think most AMD motherboards these days have integrated graphics, so it widens your options by choosing an AMD cpu.

My home server is AMD single core.
