    Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

Well I just got my pc yesterday, and all is going great, exept the 4890
stock fan is unberably loud. I have no choice but to buy a new fan for it.

    Looking at these 2:
    http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...prodID=B164766

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=810140

is the cheaper one going to be any good?

my main concern is noise. i wont be overclocking, so temp should be a lesser issue....

in which case is this any good?
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Arcti...pes-%284850%29

I have heard you can attach a 'turbo module' which consists of 2 fans, but does anyone
know if this is good with no fans, or if it will fit a 4890...

    thanks

Not sure which is good for the 4890...the first one (AC Twin Turbo) is supposed to be good, but using it will mean that you cant crossfire in the future. I have the Akasa Vortexx Neo on my 8800GT and its a great cooler, however dont know how it would be set on the 4890. The Akasa at full speed is quietier than the stock 4890 cooler at 20%.

btw, if your unhappy with the card and have it for less than 7 days you can send it back for refund.

There are custom cooled 4890's such as the Vapor-X and the Powercolor Battleforge, which are both quietier.

Re: Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

I was researching into the AC Accelero S1 Rev2 previously, I seem to remember it works better with a fan or at least have some decent airflow in your case.

The Turbo Module are 80mm fans so not sure how noisy they are. If your case side panel can fit a fan blowing directly to the gpu then that should be sufficient, or you could add a 120mm fan to the Accelero heatsink using cable ties.

The Accelero is compatible with the 4870 and it should fit the 4890, quoted from here.

Once the heatsink is removed, we are able to see what looks like a standard HD 4870 1GB but as we will see below, there are a number of differences between the two cards. The back of the card doesn’t have anything of interest other than the fact that the HD 4890 heatsink mounting holes locations are identical to those on the HD 4870. This means that an aftermarket heatsink which fits on one will fit on the other.

Re: Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

Just go for the vapour x or the asus top edition both are custom cooled and will be quieter then the stock edition.

To the op their is also this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AKASA...-GTX-285-ready says its 4890 ready and includes the ram sinks so you don't cook them, as to how good it is thats another question lol.

Re: Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

Ok. thanks for the suggestions. Now im worrried about the concept of these coolers,
in that currently the loud stock cooler at least gets rids of the hot air out the back of the
case. All these coolers pump the hot air back into the case.
The exceptions is this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=810140
but from reviews this seems not to be that great.

Currently my card takes up the whole avaiable width, due to the hd rack, so any hot air only has a small gap to escape to the top fan. Do you think this would be a problem? would this hot air escape? and also, could I remove the expansion slot covers completely, enabling air to escape through these?

    thanks a lot

Re: Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

if you worried about hot air escaping you could always get something like this
    http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=ODY=
    or to really boost epeen
    http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product...34&ss_index=83

I think the Lian Li exhausts though I'm not 100% sure.
oh and there is always the wonderful option of vented expansion slot covers, you could even zip tie a fan onto them to act as an exhaust, I've seen more "ghetto" mods.

Re: Quiet cooler for 4890 needed

Go for the Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo!

I've just got one for my old HD3870 as the stock cooler was rubbish. To be frank, I am very impressed. I am currently running the card at an overclocked 800Mhz GPU / 2500Mhz Memory with the twin turbo at 12v full speed. It keeps the card very cool, currently it is at 36 deg, and during a 3DMark06 test i have just run, it never went above 51 deg! And when the HD3870 is at stock speeds, the temperature is normally about 28 deg with the fans on full.

The fans are very quiet, at full speed they are quieter than my antec 3speed 120mm fans on medium, and running at 7v, you can't here the fans at all! The cooler also comes with ram coolers and vram coolers, which stick to it perfectly.

    And all for £23.99!!!
