I presume Secon Editions aren't as good as normal cards then.

By the way, if you really aren't going to play any games at all, I'll send you my ancient Matrox Millenium G200 (free, of course). It's in 2x AGP format, and although will run away, shrieking with fear, from any game with a remotely graphical interface, it'll cope with office work pretty well. Then again, it might be worth getting a motherboard with intergrated graphics.

    Bit of a old thread.....

SE's are not as good as the other non pro/pro cards. They are clocked lower and frequently dont have the same hardware as the others. E.g. in the case of the 9800SE only 4 pipelines are enabled, where as the 9800 (pro) as 8 piplelines. I dont think this is the case with the 9600SE as 9600's regardless of spec is a 4 pipeline card.

And if you are still looking for a card for £60 i would say 2nd hand 9500/possibly 9700.

The 9600SE has a 64-bit memory bus whereas the full 9600s have a 128-bit bus - so even if the RAM was the same speed you'd only get half the bandwidth of a full 9600 card which pretty much means half the performance in all circumstances (and the RAM will be slower than the Pro and XT versions anyway)... But if you don't need games it's still good enough IMO.

    Thanks

(I will post all other specs soon, but I can't do it right now )
    I've played BF1942 on a 128MB FX5200-low end,under AUD$/GBP100-my one is a Jetway.

the human eye definitely can detect higher than 25 fps. Anything less then 60fps is considered noticable, but i like 100fps muuahah ahahahaha ahahhaaaaa! a-hem....

Have to agree, if your not doing much 3d stuff (games etc) then you don't really need a decent card. Pretty good value for money. This will last you through the odd game of BF1942 or Quake but it won't run Far Cry terribly well. A GeForce 5600 or an ATi Radeon 9600 (vanilla) will do you just fine for what your doing.
What games were you planning to play or were you just meaning you want the capabilities if you were to ever play some games?
