Remux keeps both audio and video in one container. Anyhow, your after a card (or new system) that will accelerate the editing/converting of video, HD or otherwise ?

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

AthruZ would still ahve the same problem. His current system can't edit will the full resolution material. So he transcodes to a less demanding format, edits with that (Non Linear Editors don't touch the footage until you hit export, you always have the originals and the data file that describes what you have done with the footage) then replaces the compressed version with the original for final output.

Re-muxing from or to anything won't help at all.

@Terbinator...what funkstar said basically. I use Gilles Pialat's proxystream script at the moment but it takes an age and a half.
@Funkstar..yeah that's what I had come to realise about the GPU not really being that relevant when it comes to editing hence my rethink away from the 5770 and its £125 pricetag. I suppose I could use my X1950 but I just feel a new system demands a new card. even though those quadro cards you posted would do a nice job for me I think for the money I could go for a more 'rounded' card like say the XFX 4650 1GB passive?
The saving from £125 to £50 will give me more cash to up my spendage on monitor type eye candy (did someone say 24 inch??)

I'd say anything from a Radeon 4550 upwards would be fine, likewise form team green a GT 220 / 9600 GT would be fine.

You are probably right, the smart money would be to get something like that XFX (although the whole XFX issue is another debate entirely, have a search on the forums, plenty of people don't like them).

I got a Quadro NVS because I wanted a passively cooled low profile card and they aren't that easy to come by. Also liked the idea of having a Quadro you can pick them up on eBay for a few pounds if you are lucky sometimes too. I didn't, mine came from Scan, but it is possible.

Re: Card that is AVCHD friendly?

Haha!! it's never easy is it..yes it seems like XFX is a whole other issue
I will go for some variation of the 4650, think it will be the sapphire passive 512mb gddr3 version...my sapphire X1950 has been very solid for me so stick with what I know really.
Thankyou to all for all their help
