    22" monitor advice

When it comes to monitors I'm really not sure what to look for - PVA, IPS, TN - I kind of know what they mean but I'm not sure what I want. I'm quite surprised with the lack of proper round-up tests conducted on big review websites, and the ones that I've found usually just go over features and claimed specifications - nothing about colour accuracy/measured response time and so on.

Basically, I'm after a 22"(ish) monitor which will be suitable for gaming as well as everyday stuff - 16:10 e.g. 1680x1050 would be nice but I expecting to hear I'm best going for 16:9 in terms of price. Inputs - DVI and VGA are needed really, but HDMI and especially DP would be nice to have. Budget, I dunno really but I'm not afraid to spend a bit more for quality considering monitors are something you keep for quite a while - about the £300 mark is what I'm expecting to pay for something decent though.

I've seen a few threads on here with good recommendations but after a few days of trawling I can't seem to find more than a few of them.

Note: I'm not doing any professional photography work so I don't need a top-end panel but I am the type who would notice and be annoyed by a poor panel, hence the willingness to spend more because I'd end up changing such a monitor anyway, just wishing I'd done so in the first place!

    Thanks!

    Bump.
A shortened version of the above is - what 22" monitors would you recommend?

Also, you should be looking for a 1920x1080, and you might as well spend a few extra quid and get a 23" - a lot more choice at this size for some reason.

    Thanks!
As much as I hate to recommend anything made by Dell.....theri Ultrasharp models are extremely high quality. You will struggle t oactaully spend £300 on a 22" monitor, the wide screen ones are all so cheap these days.

For good screens look at Dell Ultrasharp (I have one, its bang on and mine is an old model now), and higher end LG, Samsung and Iiyama ,models.

This Iiyama I supplied to brother in law and he is loving it. He does gaming and also some pretty hi end photo editing and is very happy with the overall colour consistancy and contrast.

You will pay more for the Dells but they are worth it, for some reason they sell damn fine monitors.

Wow that's much less than I was expecting to pay. I was quite tempted to go for another Iiyama (I have a 19" VGA one now) but I've heard rumours of poor build quality. I must say the stand is a bit flimsy on mine but that's much less important than screen quality IMO. I'll have a look at the other brands you mentioned too, I've also heard some good stuff about Viewsonic, any comment on them?

Viewsonc is a brand I would have recommended in the past, but we bought 10 at work a few years back and I now have 6 of them waiting to be scrapped as they have all had OSD failures, so my own experience is steer clear.

One other thing I forgeot to mention is to look at the new LED monitors. I bought a relatively cheap 23" AOC for my gf for about £140. Now normally I wouldnt have touched an AOC monitor, but her prime requirement is using it for photoshop, I after a read 3 separate reviews by peeps using there AOC LED 23" for photoshop and loving it, I went and bought one. Because the LED scrrens use a different technique to illuminate themselves than traditional LCD screens, even a cheap and cheerfull one has excellent colour and brightness consistancy. I'm not saying to particularly look at the AOC, but would be worth having a shufty at the LED monitors out there too.

    Re: 22" monitor advice

I ended up getting a 23" Dell IPS monitor after doing some research, really pleased with it. Thanks for the replies.
