just purchased LG W2363D - its rubbish!

just purchased W2363D, was recommended on ocuk. and im really disapointed with it, i read some reviews and i must do some more playing with the settings, but the viewing angles are rubbish, i stand in my room a lot and use the pc for everything media related, i was coming from a 21" samsung that is 3 years old, and wished i had not bothered.... if your standing it is like looking at a 3D screen with the glasses half on, also using it as a desktop screen it looks grainy and the colours are poor. Gaming does look nice, but i only play battlefield for a few hours a week....

does anyone own this and are you happy? i presume i can send it back within 7 days? and what would you recommend as a good all rounder screen?

Re: just purchased LG W2363D - its rubbish!

A TN panel with poor viewing angels? Can't say I'm at all surprised. The first few results from a Google search mention poor performance, for the W2363D, in that regard and recommend front-on viewing only. My old Samsung displays suffered much the same but I learned to live with them.

If you're after better viewing angles, I think you'll need to up your budget and start looking at IPS. I bought my Dell U2311H displays back when they were on offer, after the Samsungs died. The screens are much more visible at greater angles, vertically and horizontally. Whilst brightness does diminish towards the extremes, colour-shifting is far less evident. (Note: No HDMI on these particular ones though.)

Whatever you choose to do, exercising your rights under DSR for instance, I would recommend you widen the scope of your research. It didn't take long finding reviews highlighting exactly your issues.

    Hope you get it sorted
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Never noticed any issues with the likes of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, or any other game for that matter. My gaming covers most genres and popular titles.

Re: just purchased LG W2363D - its rubbish!

@Crazy Fool, I'm not really recommending you go out and buy what I have. They fit my requirements just fine and they're what my research and budget led me too. I guess I'm saying, more thorough research could have avoided all of this hassle. I learned the hard way prior to the internet. You shouldn't have to.

response time 8ms or less is not an issue. It's input lag that matters and the U2311h is very good for this. See review and tech briefings on www.tftcentral.co.uk - it'll help clear up the myths.

Note if you do want a 3D screen the U2311h doesn't do 120Hz so won't do 3D gaming. IMO though I wouldn't consider a screen that isn't IPS 3D or otherwise.

cheers for info, no i dont want a 3d screen really, i got this off the strenghs of people reviews of another well know overclocking website... read a review that favoured it, but deeper looking should have been done... for that i can only blame myself. i now want to find a 23/24 inch screen ideally with height adjustment, and a good all-rounder crisp in desktop and good at games.

Dell U2311h is the best in class IPS screen for the circa £200 bracket. Shopping around and exploiting the voucher offers will get you it for £180 sometimes. Plus it comes with Dell's premium panel guarantee which is well worth having.

Indeed, that's what I found. Managed to snag cashback on top of the voucher too. The fact that I shouldn't have to worry about replacing the screens, for at least 3 years, swung it for me. I've got 3 of the buggers and it's nothing but pleasure using them.

Why not, you wont be able to tell the difference between 8ms and 2ms, anything under about 12ms I think it is the human eye cant distinguish, don't fall for marketing crap, unfortunately looking at the spec of that monitor you have as its get every meaningless / made up / just rubbish buzz word in there.

Re: just purchased LG W2363D - its rubbish!

I have the U2311H as well, and it's great for photo work. But not gaming especially. The 8ms refresh rate is noticeably worse than even my old 5ms TN display, let alone more modern 2ms and 120hz displays. (mouse/image trails, after images etc.)

But yeah, if you're not looking at gaming then it's fab.

E2409HDS is probably just as bad, seriously if you want a good monitor save for a IPS screen.
