Old Radeon 9800 Replacement

I have an old desktop PC that I threw into the spare room after the screen went all pink and green. My dad now wants a PC, so I was going to give him that - except there's that graphical issue. I think it's a graphics card issue, but I'm worried it may not be. This is the issue:



If I was to replace my card (from the part number, I deduced it to be this) what modern replacement could one get? I've tried a card from another old desktop, but it's not compatatble.

However, I don't really know if it is the graphics card. I don't particularly want to buy a graphics card just to find out that the actual PC is broken.

That looks like AGP.....if gaming is not a requirement, then I would look at something like this

If gaming is needed, things get trickier and a lot more expensive.

It's not for gaming, it's just for photo storage and perhaps a little editing. Would any AGP do then?

Yup, preferably one which is bus powered though.

That is almost certainly a graphic card problem but there may be a way of fixing it. This type of problem is often caused by the card overheating and causing a microscopic dry joint. I've had some luck using a heat gun to reflow the solder connections on boards. I've just fixed an xBox and a PS3 using it. It's the same principle as the baking trick that was put forward some time ago but you can position the heat selectively.

It is old but, In good working order. I think it is a Elsa Gladiac 721 Geforce 3ti200.

You wanna stick to a ATI card like a 98 or 96 series card. Would save having in install different video drivers...
