your only likely to got about £30 for your old 4870 today.
I would agree wth 460 1 gig or a 6850/70 is the way forward

£30? Really, I only bought it a month ago and it cost me £50. Its £160 used on Amazon, and £200 odd for Apple on Amazon... why are they so expensive there.
But yeah anyway I will probably get a HD 6850 when I can, just because AMD are my preference. HD 6870 is a bit too expensive for me, I know its only £20 more ish but I can't spend £110 as it is.
HD 6850 1GB should be enough for me hopefully
Its amazon, shops try to ofload old stock without losing that much money there and people are greedy seeing such high prices. Anything for crapple is expensive, thats the cult of apple-make them pay through the nose for it so they think they have better gear
Oh I know about Apple, that stuff is sooo expensive for rubbish basically
Well I didn't know Amazon could get away with selling old stock at a high price, better be careful with buying off online sellers.
I will probably go with a HD 6850, at £110 its pretty decent upgrade?
If your willing to go second hand I picked up a 6870 black edition for £100 for a friend last month from another forum.

The total should come to around £100.
Sorry to butt in on somebody else's thread, but I noticed we're talking temps of a HD 4870....what temp would you expect a HD4870 1GB vapour-x to run at idle?
The only game I'm playing recently (since I became a dad) is a little bit of Skyrim, but I crash to desktop quite a lot. Haven't really given it that much thought as I've got plenty else to think about, but reading this thread made me wonder...
Catalyst control centre is showing 63 degrees C whilst idle. Does that seem high?
I used to have a 4870 and it did run fairly hot, however I found that after a few years use the fan was properly clogged and the only way to stop it crashing from high temps was to remove the whole cooler assembly and fan and clean it properly. Was fine after that and played Deus ex 3 no problem, in fact I don't really feel like I see much difference between that card and my 6950!
Your temps when idle won't tell you anything, you need to know what they are doing in game. If it goes over 90 I would say you need to do some cleaning.
HEXUS FOLDING TEAM It's EASY
I took off the fan assembly, cleaned it up and reseated the heat sink with thermal paste just a couple of months ago, so shouldn't be clogged up. But I hear what you're saying about about idle temps. I'll see what it runs at in game.
Cheers
OK I will now NOT be upgrading my graphics card. No need whatsoever, the demand on my graphics card for BF3 is nothing, it doesn't ever get hot.
Ultra, and the thing doesn't even budge. How do I view my average fps for it?
Crysis was like a lot more demanding than BF3 for my card.
BF3 must be very well optimised!
