New GPU due..AMD or Nvidia oh the choices!

So after loosing out on a damn good deal (a GTX 580 so gutted) Money will be coming soon...well end of the month in fact! Now i currently have a Evga GTX 460 SC (or SSC cannot remember) So performance has to be better than this one!

To add a little i will be buying an MSI card, whole system is MSI based (even the colours are matching XD)

So i've been a long time Nvidia fan but considering the price's of the AMD cards vs performance im thinking about jumping to the green side but want some advice first.

I'm big on gaming that is high on my list but price i want to keep down, now i've limited myself to £200 may go over but not by alot.

I'm not going to wait for any newer cards to come out....

These are the cards i am thinking of,

    GTX 560ti, 570 or the AMD 6950, 6970

Both have a MSI twin frozr thing on which is perfect but the price is different...

    So suggestions?

The best card that you're going to get for around £200, from the Green team, is the GTX560ti-448.. They're around £215 last time I checked. May well be cheaper now.

Thanks looking at the performance the 560TI is the possible winner atm as i can get the one i want (MSI) for £180 at scan..that however is the lower core one.

Re: New GPU due..AMD or Nvidia oh the choices!

Right well thats a nice system 3.9Ghz on an i7 is plentiful for gaming even if really modest (my i5 is 4ghz, no need for more even though ive had it at 5ghz... epeen nothing more ).

What games do you play most? Im gunna guess bf3 as thats a tough one on any system! Id really say that it isnt going to be a massive improvement from a 460 --> £200 card as the 460 still is a solid card.

I believe the Nvidia are better in the £200 bracket though, you must be careful when looking at the 560ti as there are two versions, the original ti with 384 shaders and the newer ti with 448 shaders and the latter is the one you want, if i remember rightly it performs like 5 or 7% less on average than a 570, its a noticeable improvement over the 560ti 300 version

Hexus did a good review between the original 560ti vs the 460, http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...clocks/?page=9 it basically shows that the 560 at same clocks as the 460 was only ~10% faster... we know the 460 overclocks like a mad man and your SSC is already slightly better clocked than a 560ti anyways so it would be more like 3% better!

    However a 560ti 448 performs very close to the 570, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/306?vs=499

Havent seen any special offers in awhile, last month there was a 448 asus for like £169 but it seems to have gone now . My personal opinion would simply be to wait it out, its a bad time to buy now as Nvidia are yet to release their 600/700 series and when they do you will 99% find the bargains like we always have with old EOL tech, youd see the 448 going for like £120 or something . Im waiting for the Nvidia chips to see whats good and even then i may ignore this whole gen of cards (being brave!), currently bf3 its playable at high with 2xAA no filter at 1080p, it would be nice to get a constant over 60fps on ultra but it wont happen... i get it on high solid 60 without aa but its horrid .

Re: New GPU due..AMD or Nvidia oh the choices!

Thanks for that info and the system is still pretty new, like a few weeks new XD but the GPU is something I'm abit board of now and want something new. The problem i have with waiting it out is nvidia may make me wait for ages! so im going tio watch prices as im buying at the end of the month...

fair enough , maybe AMD will release their 7850/70 range by the end of the month and might offer even better performance .

Re: New GPU due..AMD or Nvidia oh the choices!

Well the AMD 7770 seemed to slot nicely into the current price/performance curve, doesn't offer any better value for money than earlier cards (for gaming at least). I presume things will stay that way for now.

Nvidia release may be worth holding out for, if you can delay a month.
