VGA Silencer - Compatible with GeForce4?

Is the Arctic Cooling VGA silencer compatible with a GeForce4?

    If not, what's a good quiet/high performance replacement heatsink for a GeForce4 (Ti4200).

    Thanks

    In a word: No.

Taken from the compatability list on this page: http://www.ocfaq.com/reviews/ArcticC...Silencer_Rev3/

    Dunno about an alternative...

    Theres the Vantec Iceberq4 Pro:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...oolers_57.html

Haven't tried it myself though - the copper one I recall being good at the time doesn't seem to be available anywhere...

You could fit a Zalman ZM80C - but thats probably a bit overkill for a GF4
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

The zalman is crap, but yes it will fit. The version I had zm-hp80-A anyway...
The vantec is crapper, ofcourse but it should also fit.

Not sure if the ACS can be modded to fit - the gf4 mounting holes are about 1cm further apart, though you should be able to... Youd need a drill and two long mounting bolts (m3 or 6BA) + nuts. The ACS costs £5 at ebuyer iirc, whereas the considerably crapper vantec is £15 and the slightly better zalman is £25-35.

Or you could use a cpu heatsink... though probably difficult to find one big enough for the mounting holes..... dunno how well thermal epoxy would work with 40 watts being pumped through it either....

Can I ask why - I love the Zalman coolers, they will cool nearly any card totally passively (the only card I've had problems with was a FX5950U, the test FX5900 worked fine). I love them and there well worth the premium

    They do fit in GF4s

I'm sure I saw one of those Arctic coolers fitted to a GF4 - not done it myself although as there only £5, why not get one and see if it fits

becuase they are quite rubbish in all ways - form a performance point of view anyway. If you like 1/4 of your case being pointlessly taken up by large slabs of aluminuim, and if you like the look of them, then yes, thats probably why you like them.

The are deisgned badly, even the mounting system is crap (WHAT is wrong with bolts the NORMAL way????)
See the other thread (9700 overclocking) for resons why it is crap at performing.

The problem is noone is making a cooler that could replace them... apart from ACS ... again if they used bolts for mounting and drilled a few more mounting holes it would bee compatable with everything... now that there are 4 versions this simple change has still not happened.

Vantecs are ubercrap. A peice of flat copper and a loud whiny fan... yay - A nice way to waste £15.
the acctuall copper used cost them about 50p and I expect the fan was also about that.
