The X800XT PE is better at higher rez with AA/AF enabled, and better at shader-intensive DX9 games. The 6800's own at OpenGL and some other areas, but its pretty much half and half altogether. Id much rather own an X800XT PE though, ive just bought a 22" Compac P1220 and 1600*1200 will be my standard rez. Oh... did I mention 3dc technology that Half-Life II will use?

Indeed, both top cards, and to be honest, I can't see any reason to sell one to get the other. They are both pip each other in different areas, but both are lightning quick.
I'd take the X800XT over the 6800Ultra if they were both offered to me, but either card would be superb once you got it installed.
Of course, the X800XT also runs fine on a 350w PSU, and requires a single connecter, compared to the reccomended 480w for the Ultra, and the twin connecters.
I've read quite a few reviews that said the same; both great cards, but if they (the reviewer) had to choose, they'd take the X800XT Platinum.
I suppose you are either a dog man or a cat man; a Doom III man or a Half Life II man, and a X800XT man or a 6800Ultra man.
I'm a dog, Half Life II and X800XT man myself.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
I'll update you as to stock status tommorrow, i'll email them early then report back. To be honest I can see it being delayed still, but hope always gives you a good buzz while it lasts...
Also, check these benchies to see how the XT PE performs against the cream of the 6800 Ultra crop... http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra..._ultra-07.html

If you're happy, you're happy. When my X800XT arrives, I won't be studying benchmarks, to find out if my card is 0.1% of a frame faster than a 6800Ultra in whatever game.
I read the reviews, looked at the benchmarks, weighed everything up and made my choice. I'm more than pleased with it.
6800GT. Cheap. Overclocks like a charm. And "blows the bloody doors off" in Doom3.
Guess which card I bought! :-)

Yea gonna say as of the latest news, have fun playing Doom3 on your Pro/XTPE
re: "6800GT. Cheap. Overclocks like a charm."
...I also missed off: Quiet, requires only One Molex, and requires only One Slot.
Really can't see the point of the 6800 Ultra, tbh. As regards the X800XT-PE, might still be a contender if they can lop at least £70 off the price (and even then I'd still go for a 6800GT...) Of course, some of the 'money mad' types will feel otherwise. That's cool by me.

"As John Carmack said of DOOM 3 in our introduction, "all of the modern cards play the game very well." The NVIDIA 6800Ultra and 6800GT video cards along with the Radeon X800XT-PE are going to be stellar DOOM 3 performers probably giving the gamer better Image Quality and framerate performance than we ever thought would be possible at the launch of DOOM 3. These three GPUs are simply going to deliver a level of visual gameplay immersion in DOOM 3 that will likely blow away even the most hardened game player or hardware enthusiast."Originally Posted by Noxis
Please Noxis, lets not get childish about this. You've brought a 6800Ultra, and thats great, I hope you're very happy. If you are insecure, please don't clog up the forums with posts like that, making childish comments.
The 6800Ultra is going to be faster in some games than the X800XT, and the XT faster in some than the Ultra. However, I won't be posting everytime I find a game that runs slightly faster on my card saying 'OMFG!!1!! My card rulez!!11!!', as I see little point.
I'm sure everyone with a X800XT will have fun playing Doom III on it, and Half Life II, Far Cry, Rome: Total War, etc, as will those with a 6800Ultra, regardless of which of those two cards happens to be slightly faster in the paticular game they are playing.
Let's not have this nonsense on the forums. Cheers.
Good post. Personally, I agree; I think, of all the cards, the best value for money is probably the 6800GT. I still went for the X800XT, as I wanted a top line card, but after seeing some benchmarks, you can't argue really, with the GTs value for money.Originally Posted by Nomadd
I said for a while now, that I'd take a X800XT over an Ultra, on personal preferance, but I'd go for a GT over an X800pro; for the reasons you listed. If for whatever reason, I couldn't get an X800XT, I'd probably go for the GT as my second choice, and see what sort of overclock I could get.
I think you've made a fine choice there, my boy.

What I do find annoying is the automatic assumption that the X800 range is better than the 6800. Far too many people are (or were) dismissing the 6800's out of hand for no good reason other than a few fanboi's feeding dis-information rather than an objective approach.
In regards to D3:
Yes its only one game, but it is an engine that will be used time and again for the next several years.
As for my original D3 comment it was meant as a joke and you seem to have taken it very personally, perhaps I am the not the one insecure with my purchase decisions?
I'm not being a tit mate, I'm telling you, as the Moderator of this fourm, that the last thing we need, is a another ATi Vs Nvidia slanging match, brought on, by the sort of comments you posted.
If it was a joke, fair enough, but there are adult, sensible ways of telling us that the 6800Ultra is getting good frame rates in Doom III, and your slightly childish 'Have fun playing Doom III on a X800XTPE' isn't one of them.
I will have fun, as I said, as will eveyone else who owns an X800XTPE, as that statement I pasted proves. And yes, the 6800Ultra is faster than the X800XT in Doom III, no-one disagreed, so I'm not sure why you've posted the graph. I could (but won't, it goes without saying) find 20 graphs, from various reviews on the net, of the X800XT beating the 6800Ultra in this game, or this test. I'm sure you could also post 20 more graphs, showing the 6800Ultra being faster in a certain test or game.
I'm not that interested though, to be honest. I made my choice, I'm happy with it, and I know both are blazing fast cards.
All I'm saying is, if you want to make a point about the 6800Ultra being faster than whatever card, please do; this is after all, the forum to discuss such matters. Lets just try to keep the discussion a little more adult than 'Have fun trying to play Doom III on your X800XTs'.
Is that not a reasonable request, joking aside?
If someone was doing the same thing because he'd found a game which ran faster on the X800XT, I'd say the same thing - discuss it all you like, just don't drop to the level found on some other forums, and start a slanging match.
I think what I am saying is pretty sound, and the people who read this forum would agree; discussion is good, if the level of discussion is high.
In short mate; I'm as interested as you, in the current high end cards, owning one of them as I do. Just try to keep the level of discussion a few bars higher than the potential flame-bate comment you posted earlier.
Be nice if you could not call me a tit and accuse me of being insecure about my choice of card, when I ask you to do this, as well mate, but I will ignore that.
Enjoy your card mate. And Doom III. I know I will.
Cheers,
Vaul.

Richdog; Did you mail LowestOnWeb today? I'm guessing the cards didn't come into stock, yes?
Don't normally agree with you Vaul - but this has got to be one of the best things you've said. Theres enough other places on the web were you can read this type of comparison already...Originally Posted by Vaul
