Problems this asus 5950 Ultra

My freind has purchased one of this card recenlty and is having problems with it.

When hardware acceleration is enabled and drivers installed, the card makes a hissing/buzzing noise when playing games, or even when scrolling through internet pages. This also does not happen if I remove the 4 pin molex power connector. which i know you shouldn't be doing.

Can you tell me if I need to adjust anything like AGP frequency, or are there any other drivers I can try, I have tried the newest Forceware drivers, the newest asus drivers, etc etc, but the problem remains. I have removed all nearby PCI cards to stop interference.

The motherboard he's running is a GA7 N 400 Pro 2.


any help or advice would be great as this has left me scratching my head! LOL

Sounds like it's buggered. Send it back before it gets worse.

I get this on mine all the time. Its nothing to be worried about, just a mild annoyance.
Disabling smooth scrolling helps get rid of the noise iirc, but it really dont bother me once i found it it was normal.

Surely if the card is making a hissing noise it's not normal?

Must be yet another mark against buying a GFFX over a Radeon 9x00 then

No, its normal.
And your a fanboy . It doesnt really matter what you find "wrong" with another card, if ATi had the same "issue", it wouldnt have bothered you

hmmm i haven't seen this before, i know this sound daft but how can i disable smooth scrolling?

the albatron ti4680 cards that I have do this, its the resistors hissing, this is normally and indication that one is about to go bang, so far mine has stopped the noise and isn't hissing no more.

If this is true, everyone i know that has one of the high-end FX cards has been due to go bang since they brought it

Albatron stated it themselves, saying the resistors will hiss some will go bang some will sort themselves out. The lads at the online store I bought it from said they had returns left right and centre for it but to date mine is still going strong and clocked stupidly high

Im very supprised at this because ive had *many* FX cards in my hands, and LOADS of them have done it. They have been spread across many manufacturers too.

None have died yet.

it was on their main page a few months after the release of the ti4680 they warned of the hissing, but mine has never died, also the only card of mine to do it. It had something to do with the brand of the resistor
