    Upgrading from a GF4

Hi, I have had the following card for about two years now

Gainward GeForce 4 Ti400 Golden Sample

It has served me well but I'm looking to play games like Doom 3 soon and am thinking that it won't really be up to the job.

The rest of the system comprises of the following

    AMD XP 2500
1 Gb Geil Dual Channel PC3700 memory
    160 Gb 7200RPM HDD
    nForce 2 m.board

Would an ATI 9800 Pro be a worthy upgrade bearing in mind they both have 128Mb of RAM. Are there major technology advances between them.

    Thanks in advance guys

Yes, big difference. A ti400 won't support hardware Dx 9, which is one of the main parts of Doom 3, HL2 and STALKER.
Now I upgraded from a Ti4600 to a 9800 Pro and the difference was stunning. before I couldn't even run Far Cry, now I can get around 36fps on it. I think the 9800 pro will be able to cope with Doom 3 but not on highest settings, something like an x800 XT PE would be abel to run Doom 3 on highest (we assume) but with a card like that you would have a bottleneck at the CPU.
    Hope that helps mate

How much are you willing to spend?
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Well I don't really want to spend more than £140 tbh as this is only going in a Shuttle
