    Budget Card - which (£50ish)

    specs are

    Althon XP 1800+ (at 1798mhz)
    Abit at7-max2
    2* 265mb PC3200 corsair value select
geforce 2 GTS (to be replaced)

situaltion is, with the current setup, UT is fine, but NFSu is a bit jumpy, and i what to be able to play UT 2003/4 (havent even tryed on this PC) - and i need another card (for another PC)

    - so, im looking at speding about £50 on somthing (ati or nvidia) that will beat the Geforce2

    - i was looking at the various Radeon 9550's, but is there any thig else i should consider?

    thanks, daniel

You may be able to lay your hands on a softmoddable 9500 which would do the job quite nicely.

Good idea or you should be able to pick up a Gf 4 ti4200 for that kind of money or even a ti4600 if youre lucky. They will handle UT 2K3-4 ok.

Retek sometimes have them but your best bet is to post a wanted: on forums. The ones most likely to softmod have L-shaped memory.
The only way to find out if they do or not is to try the softmod drivers and see if you get any weird effects.

Retek are doing 9700 Pros for £75, well worth the extra £25. Have a look at the thread in bargain hunt.

If you can afford it a 9700pro wees all over a 4200. I upgraded from one to the other and the difference is quite large. A 9700 pro should keep you up to date for a little while longer.
