    GFX Suggestion

    Hello All,

Currently have an ASUS 5870 but noticed that it has started to display artifacts so i'm now thinking of replacement but am torn between the Nvidia 670 or the Ati 7 series (probably a 7970) what do you guys think?

    http://uk.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AM...H58702DIS1GD5/

Current res is 1920 by 1200

Mainly used for playing games such as Battlefield 3, Diablo 3 and next year Generals 2.

    Cheers in advance

    Re: GFX Suggestion

price drops slowly filtering infor the amd 7xxx series , so watch this space over the prices coming down - likely drop quickly (from uk etailers) when the GTX 660Ti lands next month

    Re: GFX Suggestion

Well Diablo 3 is irrelevant, it has very modest requirements and either of those cards would be overkill. Nvidia currently has a decent lead on BF3, but if you can find a good deal on a high end 7xxx then it might be worth it. Might be worth waiting to see how good the 660 Ti is compared to the 670, could potentially be very close.

Totally agree about Diablo 3 but as it is getting played thought it's better to provide all the details than half of them.

I've been looking at a system upgrade in Sept / Oct (FX8350 if it delivers or Intel IB but either way the Elysium is hungry!!!) so I'm currently in no rush.

D3 p[lays well on just about any system tbh, as for BF3 - the toxic is actually slightly faster than the gtx 680

Yeah currently on IC diamond which was applied November if memory serves, just actually dismantled the fan assembly to clean so we will see if it will coast to October when the upgrade should take place.

Thanks for the advice peps, kind of confirmed what I already thought which was that I'm going to be going to the green side again (last one was a gainward 6800 ultra golden sample).

Isn't the Toxic ludicrously expensive though? And it isn't faster at the OPs 1080p resolution anyway.

Even at 5760x1200 Anand still shows the 670 being faster than the 7970GE.
If you want to look at the silly money options the EVGA 680C is going to be the king single GPU card, but I suspect the OP doesn't want to spend much over £300.

    Re: GFX Suggestion

Just something to note: Nvidia cards just seem to do way better in BF3 for some reason. If you were gonna run some massive resolution then in most cases the extra vram of a 7970 will help, a lot! If you're not running crazy big resolutions then the 670 is the way to go imo. It seems to out-perform the 7970 in a lot of games and it costs less. Unless that extra vram really bothers you it's a no brainer. I've have heard talk of amd bringing down prices though so maybe the 7970 will become a stronger card in the world of bang for buck!

    Re: GFX Suggestion

Even on 5760x1200 a 670 still has enough memory to run BF3 without issue.

I mean in some games you can contrive to use more than 2gb, but most people won't notice it, certainly not on a 670.

    Re: GFX Suggestion

the extra vram wont help at all

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-review...e-screens.html

they bench the 3gb and 6gb cards @ 5670x1080 and throw in a 2gb GTX 680 as well (a 4gb gtx 680 is being tested as well)

and theres sod all difference - the ram doesnt help
