Hi everyone. I was wondering if you can help me with a question/problem that I have.
So just now I bought a Gigabyte GTX 680 windforce x3. It had a promo on Newegg so I got it for $500. The same cost as a reference model.
So I figure it's a great company, overclocked, great cooler so it was a safe buy. Looking at the reviews made me feel that it definitely was. Then I came across a review on *********** (can't post links it looks like).
According to that review the windforce is the worst possible 680 you can buy.
It shows the windforce with an average of 64 frames in BF3.The Zotac version has 91 frames. How is this possible? It doesn't seem to me that an overclock can give a 27 FPS gap. That's the performance difference of an entire new generation of cards.
Then take a look at the stock reference 680. Even that one is faster than the overclocked windforce by 10 fps. Does that seem right to anyone?
The entire review shows results like this. Is this review bogus and just full of ****? Or does this card really have some sort of problem?
Guru3D review shows the windforce outperforming the reference versions by a few FPS as does another review I looked at. Those seem to be the proper results you would expect from a slight overclock. Not being 10+ frames slower than stock cards.
I'm just really OCD and paranoid about stuff like this so really, really wanted an opinion from you guys. Did I make the wrong choice here? Or is the windforce version a great card and that review is full of it. It's been bugging me ever since I saw that review and I don't want this to be $500 down the drain when I could've gotten a better product for the same price. So if anyone has the same card can reassure me it's fine I would greatly appreciate it. Even if you don't have the card your expert opinion on this would be just as appreciated. Thanks!
