Aria have an MSI 7970 for £295.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

The other day I upgraded from am3 to what you can see in my specs, didn't do anything special (was reinstalling windows on ssd) and windows 7 booted straight back up, updated some drivers and worked fine, I was pretty damn impressed.
EDIT: and worked fine for a few days before I got round to my clean install
As i said, its hypothetical. I dont see the 8300 series being competetive at all, but i will wait to see. On top of that, even if they are 'released' for reviews in a week or so, are we going to get stock?
So there is no good way to get it going aside from doing a full re-install from scratch?
What is a few weeks though?? If you already stuck with what you have already for the last year, whats another month or so?? I think you have a got a massive attack of the new shinies form of upgradetitus!!
Its like with my HD5850 1GB - I want to get a new graphics card too. However,I did some research and realised a number of major tech demo type games are out in the first half of next year. I have not been massively pleased with the price/performance progression this generation,so have decided to hold off until the HD8000 and GTX700 series are out. I want HD7970/GTX670 level power for not more than £200!!
Remember that Core i5 2500K prices actually went up after the FX8150 was released. If the FX8350 is more competitive prices will go down. You already got a good AM3+ motherboard and a good cooler - overclocking should not be an issue for you.

Or there is no denying i have a case of the upgraditus! It was bonus and pay rise for me the other week so its burning a hole!
So if its unlikely to be competetive with the i5 (which is a fairly good assumption given what we have seen so far, not not much more than a slightly better bulldozer in most scenarios) and the prices on intel are then likely to go up after the release... what am i waiting for?
The FX8350 is not going to be slower though - -it has at least a 10% clock boost. On Monday or Tuesday we will see how the Trinity A10 and A8 CPUs do and these lack L3 cache and have half the number of threads the Vishera FX8300 series will have. At least in three instances I can see a 10% to 15% IPC increase of the Trinity A10 and A8 over the FX4100 series. Of course,it remains to be seen if this true overall.
So why would the Core i5 prices rise?? Moreover, the game which seemed to spark off your upgradetitis uber rush is multi-threaded. On top of this you said you don't even bother that much about eye candy. So again,I don't see why you are in such a hurry?? Maybe,I am just much more patient than most people. I could have got a new Xeon E3 1230 for around £120,but held off it,as I wanted a lower TDP V2 version, and correctly determined my Core i3 2100 should just about be OK until next year.

Its not that much of a hurry, you where the one who suggested the prices could go up if performance isnt great and AMD dont have a great record over the past few years WRT performance
The original question was genuinely hypothetical, im curious as to how much of a ballache it will be for me to sort my PC out if i switched back to intel?
I'm with cat on this. I had the same urge, though I went out and upgraded from a 1090BE to an i7 2600K.
Depending on becnhmarks the i7 system is faster, though I couldn't tell the difference when both were clocked at 4ghz.
The only component I didn't regret buying and provided noticeable difference was the revodrive.
