my problem is that i currently have like a 4 year old monitor which runs at 1440x900, so i know either of them is good on this pc at this resolution, but i might upgrade it in the future so i wanted a graphics card that will run games smoothly while recording them for making lets play videos at a higher resolution if/when i get one

System details are kinda irrelevant. What matters are the games you play.

Or if it's a wide variety, then just get whichever one is best value.

I don't know if this will answer your question, but I am having the same decision to make at the moment. I have a thread open: link

So far, I am tempted by the GTX660. It is a tough decision though. You may want to consider which games you would like to use it with and then check benchmarks for those games.

Good luck, let me know if you dig up anything interesting!

whichever is best value huh?... and how exactly do i know which one is better value for money?....

asking people online for help with a simple question like which graphics card is better for yata-yata is like asking a politician a yes or no question... you never get a straight answer..... and often they don't even answer your question.

I apologize for that, buts its kind of true....

Well if they are from the same manufacturers then whichever is cheaper.

If you want to know what I would personally choose if it was me, it would be this one:

Best value is simple in theory: most for your money [preferably when a budget has been specified].

In this case, "price / benchmark score", where the lower the value the better would be a sensible baseline for the best value graphics card. However this is not always possible.

Is your PSU an XFX PRO 550W??

The MSI GTX660 and HD7870 cards have a good cooler and warranty:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/362481-msi-nvi...7870tf-2gd5-oc

This review gives the relative positions of the MSI pre-overclocked GTX660 and the stock clocked HD7870:

The MSI HD7870 card also has a small pre-overclock,so they are quite similar value for money.

The HD7850 is another card to consider,if you are overclocking:

You will also get a few quid cashback from Top CashBack and Quidco too.

yes, my PSU is the XFX Pro 550W, why? XD

and i don't really intend on overclocking at all, and a lot of the reviews on that website you linked place the 7870 above the 660 in value for money, especially at the higher resolutions, so i think maybe that might be the better choice... thanks, cat XD

Re: GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870?

I think I have made up my mind.

After looking at comparisons of both graphics cards, the 660 is generally better for anything below 1080p resolution, after this the 7870 comes into a world of its own. To be honest, I don't have a ....x1600 resolution screen and do not plan on buying one any time soon. Maybe buying the 660 will give me a reason to buy a new graphics card in 3-4 years time
