    Recommend me a GPU!

I need to overhaul my whole system including the GPU. Quiet is a big consideration, it's to be paired with an overclocked i5 on a 24" samsung monitor that I can't remember the resolution of. 78xx or nvidia? Is a 7950 just a waste? What are the quietest cards around?

GTX 680 MSI aren't too bad either, but it will depend on your use, as something smaller may suit your needs

    Re: Recommend me a GPU!

Thanks for the suggestions, most of my gaming has recently been on consoles but am looking at going back to my PC after a rebuild. Still play skyrim a lot. I'm inclined towards either 7850/70 or a 7950, just wondering if the latter is overkill for my system on my monitor. Also if my psu will cope ok - corsair hx520

The HD7950 does do well when you start adding 3rd party mods to Skyrim, as a number of them tend to eat up RAM from what I gather.

    Re: Recommend me a GPU!

I would recommend 7950. Best value for performance and overclocks like a charm! Your PSU should be fine, minimum required is 500W. I have a 570W psu and will be getting 7950 soon, just need to choose which one

    Re: Recommend me a GPU!

Would recommend a MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr Graphics Card. Pretty click looking and the Twin Frozr cooler keeps card fairly cool usually around 50 degrees in games. Can barely hear the fans spinning on mine is nice and quiet and yeah looks awesome as well

I would go with the 7950, i recently bought a Gigabyte radeon 7950 Windforce 3gb, and it performs amazingly it is really quite even under extreme pressure.

Gotta agree on that. The Gigabyte Windforce 7950 3GB just dominates in terms of performance and value.

This is synonymous with many online reviews so I'd have to agree. Personally i'm going for the 7970 Windforce as its been nicely overclocked to 1ghz and potentially can be overclocked further; some people reporting a stable 1.3ghz but we'll see...

Your decision though like with many people will probably come down to your budget.

    Re: Recommend me a GPU!

I highly recommend the 7950. I have the MSI Twin Frozr III version and got it overclocked with MSI Afterburner nice and easily. Core: 1100Mhz, Memory 1390Mhz. You will not be disappointed by this card. I use it with everything totally maxed out on Skyrim at 2560x1440 (8x AA and 16x AF) so its a very capable card. Its great for other games too such as Crysis 1 and 2 and Metro 2033.

Well, I ordered a 7870 from scan in the end, which should be arriving tomorrow along with an Asus xonar D2X. Looking forward to that little upgrade!
