    Any love for GTX 660?

I've been thinking of upgrading to an OC'd GTX 660

(I would post a link but can't due to lack of posts. Its the MSI Twin Frozr III GTX 660, retails at £158 currently)

but there doesn't seem to be a lot of love for it. Anyone with advice? I appreciate the 7870 is better but it doesn't seem as better as some say, at least not in the bench marks and it is more expensive. Just wondering if there were problems with the 660 I haven't noticed.

    cheers

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

It depends on the price you pay. The HD7870LE/XT for example is faster at £170 to £180,but you can get the GTX660 for just under £150,which is very good value too.

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

Yeah the 660 OC is a good card, still a bit pricey compared to the same market position card of the last generation. Can't really go wrong with cards around there - they're all very good. If you pay more you get a faster card, if you pay less you get a slower card.

The GTX 660 is a great card, consider getting the Gigabyte version @ £147.59 on Scan today only.

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

I think its price eeds to drop before it becomes a viable option.

I did recently come across this card :
KFA2 [ not heard of brand] GTX 660 EX OC 2GB was on for £108 at ebuyer - [sold out now]

Is that the same card or does the 'EX; make it different?

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

Nah it's the same card. Got good reviews too:
    http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...gtx-660-ex-oc/

    http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages..._review,1.html

    Fairly quiet, and performs ~HD7870 although the it's really a 1.5GB + 0.5GB card.

Currently back on at £108 from Ebuyer. No idea why it's about £40 cheaper than any other GTX660 but it seems Ebuyer are shipping them so maybe it's not a mis-price:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/409722-kfa2-gt...l-66nph7dn6zvz

I actually bough one at the £102 price.I would have preferred buying a Radeon but with 7850 at £150+ and 7870 at £175+, I couldn't resist. I had figured it was a mis-price and but it's currently at picking and it's too late to cancel now. Not sure whether to keep it or sell it.

It's a Galaxy card, but it's known as KFA2 in Europe (part of the Galaxy company)... I have the KFA2 GTX 660 Ti EX OC in my living room PC and it's quite a decent card, but i wouldn't pay the current asking price for it. The Radeon 7950 is a better choice for around the same price, or even less! (and i have both, so i know ).

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

The GTX660 is much more like a 580 in terms of performance.

Let's not confuse issues with the much more expensive Ti version.

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

Gamegpu tested the same set of drivers too:

    http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps...-test-gpu.html

    Edit!!

That GTX660 for £100 to £110 is probably the best buy I have seen for quite a while for a graphics card. Its quite a good model.

Re: Any love for GTX 660?

Oh well, was fun while it lasted: that is to say that Ebuyer cancelled that GTX 660 I ordered at £100. Was rather strange; a Nvidia card which was good value; a price far cheaper than any other make of GTX 660. Oh well, will have to buy something else, maybe go overboard and get a 7950?

Still, HUKD will be full of people giving out to them for taking so long to cancel.

Or you could wait a month or two and see what the price/performance is like with the new Nvidia GTX 7xx series? Just a thought ... I think it'll be a little while before AMD release the HD 8xxx series (around October according to some rumors).
