I still game on my old Chuntex 19" (CTX). It's a hell of a beast, but takes up the entire desktop space

I find frame rates under 30 FPS really hard on my eyes and brain, so I voted for that as MINIMUM. I agree that the higher the frame rate the smoother the game feels... more responsive etc.

With my PC getting on a bit, I'll take whatever I can get lol. Really though I'd want to be looking at a minimum of 30.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

I think it has to be at least 40FPS, but less in most games is still playable.

I try and get at least 50FPS to keep me happy.

I have always found any higher to be too much as it seems to overload my GPU. I was playing Dead Space last year on my 7850 and I had over 200FPS and my card was running at 100%. Put on Vsync and it ran at 60FPS which was just as good to look at and my card load dropped right back to around 20% iirc.

Whatever it takes for smooth play as I use nvidia 3dvision and turn up just about everything except shadows and AA which I keep lowish.....I don't monitor the fps but as long as game play is smooth I'm happy

    Depends on the game.

I'm perfectly happy with the smoothness of some games at 25fps, but other need much more.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

Like other people have said I aim for a responsive experience, I voted for 30fps as I assume that it means a constant 30fps which should be adequate. However, I do find that 120fps on Team Fortress 2 is far better than 30fps, even if they are both constant. Not sure if this is a placebo effect because I can see the number of frames.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

I'm happy as long as it's smooth and even happier when it's maxed and locked 60FPS.

But its annoying in GTA where the settings don't affect the 30-60FPS range.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

Anything less than 55 actually hurts my eyes and does my head in! So I aim for a solid 60fps. I don't mind brief drops to around 40fps if it's only for a couple seconds and is rare.
But when I was a bit younger I really didn't care because I didn't have this problem. Back then I would happily play at 30fps!

30 Frames are just fine for me. Anything lower and I would look for a major upgrade on the system.

I'm obviously a weirdo, because I actually find anything above ~ 20fps pretty acceptable. tbf I mostly play third person ARPGs like Torchlight, Dungeon Siege 3 etc., and once you get those to ~ 24fps it's fine. Interestingly though, Torchlight seems to get choppier at low 20s than DS3 - presumably the game engine is doing something to smooth performance in DS3. Might need to start doing some latency analysis

But yeah, mid-20s works for me for most things. Might be why I'm not very good at FPS

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

The higher the challenge level of the game the more you need FPS.

In highly competitive action titles you need all the FPS you can get, it's those games where you react instinctively where it matters.

If the challenge of the game doesn't force you to play accurately then you don't really mind when you get hit by something you could have dodged, or when you miss a headshot you ought to have made. It's only when you start dying horribly that FPS matters.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

It depends on the games you play and also the quality.....bf3 on ultra looks amazing......but at 30fps i would rather knock down the eye candy to high to gain some extra fps in multiplayer.

Re: What's the minimum frame rate your prepared game at?

Actually one of the interesting things is whether extra quality is a good thing or not.

Do the extras give you additional information or do they just distract you?
Sometimes eye candy can be bad even if you still get 100+ fps.
