AMD Hawaii GPU to be released around the end of September.

Speculation is the new cards are heavily reworked 28nm chips and offer a much larger jump in performance than what was seen from the HD6000 -HD7000 move.

Oh Charlie, you so funny - where did the love for nvidia go...?

Be very interesting to see what AMD pulls out of the bag v. GCN1, as the rumours are that the number of shaders in top-end Kaveri isn't going up. But if Charlie's right about the arch. gains being significant, they might be able to keep the same number of shaders and still pull out a performance leap. Doing some review comparisons, it looks like VLIW4 - GCN didn't actually kick up performance that much: be nice to see a direct - ideally clock-for-clock -comparison of a 6970 to a Tahiti LE 7870 but as far as I can tell the difference in general is about 15% (although it can be upwards of 50% in certain games), but the 7870 clocks ~ 10% higher for both core and memory. If Charlie reckons GCN 2 will provide significant enhancements in performance staying at 28nm, that's got to be good news for Kaveri vs. GT3e.

Although how much do you trust Charlie when he describes the shift from VLIW4 to GCN as "the minor tweaks last time around"?

I do agree with Charlie about the nvidia 600-700 release, the price performance ratio has gone down and GPU prices have become laughable. The refreshed nvidia range are either over priced or not fast enough to merit release in many ways.

Hopefully AMD can offer a proper jump in performance and better value this time round. Finger crossed the cards are native 28nm designs and not 20nm rehashed to 28nm.

    Some unconfirmed snippets of info.

Random forum member posted a 3d mark score of 4800. About 42% faster than a HD7970

Unconfirmed pricing. Possible RRP of $550. Should be £430-450 in the UK.

    Retail packaging pic's
