    R270x or R280x for Battlefield 4

Currently running a 6870 along side my FX 8350.

Have around £200 to spend on GPU upgrade to go with a new 1080P 24" screen that I will order.

I really don't play that many games. I generally stick to the same couple. I have just moved from Bad Company 2 to Battlefield 4.

I want to crank the settings up to max on 1080p , Whats the best solution , R270x or R280x ( I want to stick in the red camp )

Neither of those will get you to max. 7970 is about the same performance as my OC'd 670, which is fine on high with no AA, but is too slow above that. For max I'd suggest you're into 290 territory.

    +1. I would go for a 280X

My 7950 on a i5 760 @ 4.2Ghz was running BF4 on High @ 1440p. To get Ultra (maybe minus some extreme AA) at 1080 you should be fine with the 280X

    Re: R270x or R280x for Battlefield 4

Any thoughts on what is the most quiet in idle - noise when gaming I don't mind as I have headphones on, but I like silence when just reading and web surfing...

Looking at Asus Radeon R9 280X version might be best. Currently have MSI 6870 with their custom silent cooler, but their R280x model is quite a bit more.

    Re: R270x or R280x for Battlefield 4

I agree, the Asus Radeon R9 280X is (as of what I've heard) the quietest and most easy to overclock. It is, however, not the cheapest, so if price is really important to you, I suggest opting for the cheaper Sapphire version instead. But definitely, go for the R9 280X.

I'm using the Asus R9 280X DirectCUII TOP and i can tell you it's VERY quiet! It's also one of the few cards that doesn't suffer from coil whine (they use a custom alloy power phase). My max temps have been 69C for the GPU and VRM temps reach 64C... Not bad at all for a factory oc'd card .

Why not go for the ROG Asus 7970 Platinum? Was the very elite among the 7970s, the same card as the 280 but comes with the never settle bundle so you get 3 games too! I think it is £20 cheaper than most 280s too!

Nearly all with aftermarket coolers are very quiet at idle.

The ASUS is not worth the £260-270 they are going for imo.

Except they are like rocking horse **** right now. Ebuyer I think have one left at £270 the rest are over £300.

The best two at time of writing are (as I stated in another thread) the MSI TFIII 7970 at scan for £210 in the today only section and the HIS R9 280x Turbo at ocuk for £234.

Ah what, it's a fast market right now, I saw one for £220 last week (maybe 10 days ago) I can't remember where but I searched it on google shopping and it was a largish UK retailer

I've just gone with the MSI 280x OC. All the reviews are very favourable and it was in the Scan today only section over the weekend for £215. Amazing price. It's still in that section when I posted this.

Watch the VRM temps with that one... I know a couple of review sites said their MSI cards were constantly throttling due to very high VRM temps (100c+), but MSI might have sorted that issue by now (hopefully).

Oh really? I hadn't seen that with the 280x reviews, only the 290s.. All the reviews I saw said the card was one of the cooler running 280s.. I'll keep an eye on it though thanks!
