    MSI R9 270 vs MSI GTX 660

Hello everyone, new member here. I was just looking for a little help choosing a graphics card for a build I plan on ordering in the next few days. I have narrowed it down to either the GTX 660 (which comes free with AC4) which comes in at £138.79, or the R9 270 which is £129.95.

I'm not really sure as to which to get, I hear AMD is better for certain games (CryEngine) and Nvidia is better for others. I'm not really a fan of Battlefield/Crysis games. I do plan on getting AC4 so it being bundled with the 660 is a bonus.

    Any help is appreciated.

Re: MSI R9 270 vs MSI GTX 660

    R9 270 easily. HERE. £124.79, absolute steal

Very nice looking too! The GTX 660 is comparable to say a HD 7850. The R9 270 is more like a juiced up HD 7870 and on average perform similar and sometimes out performing it

About the bundled AC game, just head over to eBay there is so many people selling their bundled games it isn't even worth it any more. I vote R9 270

If you do get the BF4 bundled I'd buy it from you! haa

    Try these:
    http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...graphics-card/
    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A..._II_OC/27.html
    http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/g...270-im-test/3/
    http://www.hardware.fr/focus/92/amd-...formances.html

Seems the difference between R9 270 and R9 270X is just clock speed as they both have the same # shaders. Anyhow, the 270 is slightly faster and has a bit better perf/watt.

Battlefield 4 version costs £148.44. How are AMD drivers these days? I remember they had a reputation for poor drivers last time I built.

Poor AMD drivers are an internet myth. For every ATI/AMD fail there has been an NV one.

Looking at TechPowerups benchmarks has made up my mind. 660 has better benchmarks in most of the games I plan to play. Thanks for the link.

You may as well just spend the extra £6 on the MSI 270X Gaming then through Scan's daily deal offer it's a better card overall

Re: MSI R9 270 vs MSI GTX 660

660 only has effectively 1.5gb of ram. the last 1/2 gig is bus starved and locked out by drivers (apparently).

you can mine with the 270 too

Just out of interest which 660 are you thinking of buying?

Effectively the same cooler as the one Mike linked! No decision maker there then.
