Silly question - xFire overclocking

Hey guys,

Getting my new case tomorrow (Air 540) and after transplant I want to get my CPU back up towards 4.8 / 5ghz and then focus on the GPUs.

Since moving to xFire I haven't actually played much with GPU OC, just a bit of core with the cards sync'd, however, tomorrow I will be seeing what both can do with a few hours of spare time and lots of small adjustments.

I just released I'm not sure how multiple cards preform when overclocked... Do I just get the most of out each card indervidually? Do I find the sweet spot that works for both? If I find stables speeds for the cards on their own will it likely break once they are xfired again?

I think for most crossfire setups they will automatically run at the clock speed of the slower card? So basically you'll be limited by whivchever card overclocks least. At least that's my understanding, but perhaps things have changed in the last few years - if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell me

Yeah I was thinking something along the same lines.

Annoyingly going from my quick play few months ago I think card 1. Clocks high on Core and crap on memory while card 2. is crap on core but great on memory

I've no experience with it, but since you can crossfire cards from different ranges it should be able to manage different clocks. Where the performance sits is a different matter I suppose.

My only experience was with hybrid crossfire (HD4200 + HD3470) and I know when I had 2 different clock rates set the whole thing crashed horribly - although that could have been software trying to sync the clock speeds to the highest one and crashing the 3470, I guess. Probably more reliable to keep both cards at the same clocks, tbh.

I found you need to slightly compromise on single card speed, & highest clock speed may not be the sweet spot for performance, test on a range of benchmarks.
