Graphics Card upgrade for Adobe Photoshop CS6

    Hi,

A family member has recently got a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6 which unfortunately won't support the on-board graphics card in the HP Pavilion p6107uk.

To get the best out of PS6 she is going to need a new graphics card with at least 512mb of vram.

The mobo has a PCI-e x16 slot for a new graphics card, i was thinking about putting one of these in.

It supports OpenGL (v?) & shader model 4.0 (CS6 requires shader model 3.0 or later, OpenGL 2.0)

My question/concern is, is this graphics card fit for purpose and will the 300w Pavilion PSU be suffcient, or will i also need to buy a fit a new PSU?

    Thank you.

Re: Graphics Card upgrade for Adobe Photoshop CS6

The latest version of CS have moved primarily over to OpenCL accelleration which works better on AMD cards.

This is the minimum card I would get:

The PSU should be fine, otherwise this one would do the job:

    Edit!!

How much RAM does the system have??

I would also probably upgrade the CPU too.

board is an AM2 `narra5` and can use 4GB DDR2, and if its stock then he has an X2 7750 and can support 95w AM3 quads

Thanks Moose, although that graphics card you recommended states it requires a 400w PSU.

While upgrading other components may be ideal it's not absolutely necessary, AFAIK she is happy enough with the system performance for all things other than CS6. So to keep costs to the absolute minimum I'm inclined to upgrade just the graphics card.
