looking for AMD video card for gaming

I have been looking at the R7 260,260x, and the 265. I play battlefield 4, crysis, and I am going to get titanfall. Should I look at the R9 270x, 280, or the 280x. What brand would be the best to look at. I would like to cross fire , ( I have a 700 watt power supply, should I update it . What wattage and brand. ) Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

That is a big question to deconstruct; what is your budget, what resolution do you game at, do you care about quality? What is your frame rate sensitivity (ie, at what frame rates do you begin to notice a lack of smoothness?) Looking around BF4 numbers; http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...dual-x/?page=5

Above 30FPS at 1920 with Ultra settings on the 265. Drop some settings and it should become smooth for almost any situation. Crysis is a similar story. Though I may suggest you stretch to a 280 series if you want to play current gen games at Ultra 1920.

My advice; set a budget. Then get the single most powerful card you can. Aftermarket coolers preferred since you can get a bit more of an OC out of them. With regard to brand, IMO it doesn't matter too much but Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and Sapphire are good brands.

I usually play at 1980x1020.a single card in the 280, 280x class then. What brand and model do you think is best. My budget is around $200-400.

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

Hexus has reviews for three 280x cards,

Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP
Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Overclocked Edition
    Sapphire Radeon R9 280X TOXIC

As you're from the US, I'm assuming you'd be buying from newegg? They don't sell the Gigabyte, which looks to have the worst performance and is a lot noisier than the other two. The Sapphire is slightly faster than the ASUS (only about 5fps) in the reviews but it's also ugly as sin plus the ASUS is the quietest of the lot!

Newegg are doing the ASUS for $311.99 which is $68 cheaper than the Sapphire!

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814121803R

EDIT - The ASUS there says "open box", guessing that means ex-display or a return or something?

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

Myself i have the msi 270x 4gb and am extremely happy with it ,plays everything on ultra without having to OC ,but it doesnt support 4k tho , but then again i dont have a 4k monitor anyway.
Pretty sure you be happy with a 280 , but as mentioned it depends on your budget , their not cheap , but since a new range of videocards are comming out , i expect the prices to get slightly lower in the next few months

Sorry for the delay, but I have a A 10 5800k APU processor. would that make a difference in which choice of video card to get. I have a 6870 right now. 16 gig of 1800ddr3.

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

the a10 5800k may be a bottleneck for a 280x so a lower end card may be a better option, look at benchmarks for the cards and factor them into your decision aswell.

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

The A10-5800K will fair well, but you will probably be limited in CPU intensive areas, i.e. large 64 player maps on Battlefield. If you can overclock it that'll take some weight off.

That said you have Mantle to take the load off the CPU in BF4 Titianfall, I am not too sure. Crysis will be fine.

    The 265 is essentially a HD 7870 which is fine for 1080P. The 260X is like a 7850. I'd go for the 265 personally. I wouldn't pair a 280/X with that APU.

270X would be my recommendation, it's basically a 7870/7950. To see the difference between these cards take a look at the following link http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU14/815

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

Great suggestions. The R9 280 or 290X is what I recommend.
I do agree with mikeo01 about Mantle and its performance boost - so you should be okay on this front.

Also, don't forget to claim your Never Settle Forever game code. If you decide to go with the 280, you'll be eligible to choose three games since its in the Gold tier: http://sites.amd.com/us/promo/never-...edforever.aspx

Re: looking for AMD video card for gaming

R9 280 is not a viable option as it is only marginally cheaper than the R9 280X. 280X is more than enough for everything but a GTX 770 might be a better choice if Skyrim is targeted. In general look at which games you are interested and if they are Nvidia or AMD favoured and decide upon that. In all other manner 770 and 280X are more or less similar - price/performance/overclockability/heat/noise. I personally went for a cheap 280X and sort of regret it as there is coil whine. I think the best option is an MSI GTX 770 or an Asus R9 280X.

280 or if budget allows 280X. The boost from mantle is great for ram usage.
Before mantle my card used 1.5gb with mantle it uses almost 3gb.

I had the Asus 7970 DCUii and it was a very quiet card. Awesome build quality.
