I'm not sure delaying it and saying they couldn't get it faster are the same thing, particular as (like titan vs R9290 and indeed 780ti) gaming performance isn't really what its there for. The problem is probably yield related, 780Ti needs a fully enabled die, as does ordinary titan and whatever the equivalent quadro is. I'd guess they simply can't produce enough.
they had to downclock it to run it on air - 705mhz vs 836 for the original titan. your probably looking at something comparable to GTX 780 in sli for performance.
Sounds like a reasonable assumption to me.
Nobody expected the 780Ti, but it became available just as the 290X was beating up the 780. nVidia (and AMD) have always tried to release a new top-dog card to out-trump the other. They both have a history of paper launches delaying release, so maybe they've just decided they can't out gun the 295X this time and will instead invest their time and efforts on the next generation - another 3 months and we'll start seeing posts asking when the GTX800 series is going to be available!
Wrong thread.
You sure you've posted in the right place Cat? This sounds like what normally get's left in that monster that is the piledriver chit-chat topic (why is that still going?!!!)
The suggested price of the Titan z made it pointless atleast the 295x2 is only £300 more then if you were to buy two 290xs and it has a AIO so its not even that bad really, but the Titan Z was said to be around £2500-3000 which is 3-4 times the price of a single Titan black and only has a basic air cooler.
It's hard to say the tri slot monster they have created is basic but ok. However, I agree that the Titan Z currently has no market with that price. If they have to rethink the whole concept of their new dual graphics this indefinite postponing might be too much and the new gen might arrive before that. Anyway, they do not win a dime from those dual chip silliness beasts, its all about marketing and prestige. I assume it is just slower than the 295X2 and it would look very bad to be 2 times more expensive and slower.
